Build the ticker as a hosted web page or local HTML file, add it to an OBS scene as a Browser Source, and send the finished scene to YouTube Live through an encoder. Before broadcasting, test the ticker’s readability and motion, confirm the listing content is authorized for public display, and check the stream preview and health in YouTube Studio.

What you need

  • OBS Studio to compose the video scene. Its Browser Source can load a web page or local file and is documented for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS Browser Source documentation.
  • A ticker page hosted at a URL or saved as a local HTML file. It should include your brokerage or brand identity and the listing details you are permitted to show.
  • A YouTube Live stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio, plus its stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
  • A stable upload connection suitable for the resolution and bitrate you choose. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate rather than assuming a connection can sustain a target setting.

1. Prepare the ticker and verify listing permissions

Choose the content and source

Decide which authorized listing details to display, such as an address or area, price, property type, and contact or brokerage identity. Keep each item concise enough to read while it scrolls. The data, photographs, prices, and agent details must be cleared for the intended public broadcast under the applicable listing agreement, brokerage policy, and local rules. OBS and YouTube’s streaming setup guidance does not grant permission to republish listing material.

Build a hosted page or local HTML file

Create the ticker as a page that renders only the overlay, rather than a full website with navigation and unrelated content. A hosted page is convenient when you want to update the ticker without replacing a file on the streaming computer; a local file avoids depending on a public page being reachable during the broadcast. In either case, verify the displayed data yourself and make sure any externally updated feed is authorized and functioning. No specific listing provider or feed permission is established here.

2. Add the ticker to OBS

  1. Open the OBS scene that will make up the YouTube broadcast.
  2. In the Sources panel, add a Browser Source. Choose the hosted ticker page URL or enable the local-file option and select the HTML file.
  3. Set the Browser Source width and height to the intended overlay viewport. OBS also provides controls for custom CSS, frame rate, and refresh behavior; adjust these only as needed for your page.
  4. Position and resize the source in the preview so it sits over the video content where you want the ticker. Keep it inside safe margins and avoid covering faces, property details, captions, or other essential visuals.
  5. Place the ticker source above the background or video source in the scene’s source order so it renders on top.

OBS supports loading both local files and URLs in Browser Source. See the official Browser Source guide for the available source controls.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

3. Make the ticker readable in a moving video

  • Check contrast: Use a text and background treatment that remains legible over the scene underneath it. If the ticker has a translucent background, test it over every type of footage in the loop.
  • Set a readable pace: Watch several complete passes at the actual output resolution. If viewers cannot read a listing before it exits, slow the movement or shorten the text.
  • Check size and margins: Preview on a smaller display as well as your production monitor, and keep text away from the frame edge.
  • Inspect the full loop: Confirm that the ticker remains visible and does not collide with scene changes, lower thirds, or other on-screen elements.
  • Check updates: If the page pulls updated data, confirm that a refresh or data outage will not leave a blank or broken overlay. Do not assume an external feed is permitted merely because it can be displayed.

4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream in Live Control Room.
  2. Open the stream’s encoder settings and copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding streaming fields in OBS. Treat the key as a credential: do not show it on screen or share it publicly.
  3. Set the output resolution and bitrate for your available upload bandwidth, using YouTube’s current published encoder recommendations. YouTube’s guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds; check its current settings before configuring the encoder because platform specifications can change. YouTube encoder settings.
  4. Start the encoder output from OBS and wait for the stream preview to appear in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, use Live Control Room to confirm the preview and start the event.

YouTube specifically recommends a speed test to check upload bitrate and says to test before starting the live stream. Its encoder settings page is the reference for resolution and bitrate choices: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. For the stream URL and key workflow, see YouTube encoder setup.

5. Test the complete broadcast and monitor it

Do a test with the same ticker, scene changes, audio, and video movement you plan to use live. Check the ticker on the actual output, not just inside the page editor: confirm its text is legible, movement is smooth, source is layered correctly, and no listing is clipped. Verify audio and watch YouTube’s stream health in Live Control Room before and during the event. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health.

Troubleshooting common ticker problems

What you see Likely cause What to check
Blank Browser Source Incorrect URL or local-file selection, unavailable hosted page, or page rendering problem. Confirm the URL or selected file, then load the page independently and refresh the Browser Source. If using a hosted page, check that it is reachable from the streaming computer.
Ticker appears behind the video Source layering in the OBS scene. Move the Browser Source above the video or background source in the Sources order.
Text is clipped or too small Viewport dimensions, source sizing, or page layout do not match the intended overlay. Check Browser Source width and height, then resize and reposition it in the OBS preview. Recheck at the output resolution.
Text is hard to read while scrolling Low contrast, long listing copy, or excessive scroll speed. Improve contrast, reduce text length, slow the ticker, and test over the actual video loop.
YouTube does not show a preview or reports poor stream health Encoder connection, stream URL/key, or upload bandwidth may be at fault. Verify the URL and key in OBS, confirm the encoder output is active, run an upload speed test, and consult YouTube’s current encoder settings and Live Control Room health indicators.
