To add a fixed church logo and service times to a YouTube sermon stream, place them as image and text sources in an encoder scene—here, OBS Studio—above the sermon video. Connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key, then check the preview and watch page before relying on the setup. For a stream intended to run continuously, also plan around YouTube’s stated archive behavior: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Prepare the logo and service-time text
- Use a clear logo image; a transparent-background file can sit neatly over the video.
- Keep the logo and times away from the preacher, captions, and other important picture content.
- Use short, legible service-time wording. These are practical layout choices, not YouTube requirements.
Add the logo and times in OBS Studio
- Choose a scene. In OBS, select the scene that will supply the stream picture, or create one. A scene is made from sources that combine into the outgoing image.
- Add the sermon video. Add or select the video source that contains the sermon footage.
- Add the logo. In the Sources dock, select the plus button, choose Image, and select the logo file.
- Add service times. Use the Sources plus button again and choose Text. Enter the service-time wording in the text field.
- Set the layer order and position. Sources higher in OBS’s source list appear in front of lower ones. Put the logo and text above the sermon video, then move or resize them in the preview. Check the composition at the stream canvas dimensions.
OBS supports image sources, including slideshows, and customizable text sources. If service times change regularly, a text source can read from a file instead of using text entered directly in OBS. Test the file path and formatting on the computer that will run the stream before depending on it.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream into OBS’s stream settings.
- Keep the key private. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If the key is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
YouTube’s interface may change, so use the current Live Control Room labels if they differ from these steps.
Test the actual stream before relying on it
Set up the encoder stream ahead of the service and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. Check that the watch page is accessible, the logo is positioned correctly, the times are readable, and both video and sound work. Watch from a computer and a phone if possible; a short test stream can expose layout or connection problems before the real broadcast.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Logo or times missing: Check that the relevant source is enabled and above the video source in OBS’s source list.
- Text is too small or hard to read: Adjust its size or position in the preview, then recheck at the canvas dimensions and on a phone.
- File-based times do not update: Confirm the text-file path and formatting on the streaming computer, then verify the rendered text in OBS.
- YouTube receives no stream: Recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against the current Live Control Room details. If the key may have been compromised, reset it and replace the saved key.
- Picture works but sound does not: Check audio in the encoder and confirm it in YouTube’s preview before proceeding.
Plan for a 24/7 stream and its archive
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 event will produce a complete archive. Plan how to handle the live event and recordings—such as rotating scheduled/live events where appropriate—and confirm the current behavior in the channel’s Live Control Room. Do not promise viewers that a single continuous event will leave a complete archive based on the under-12-hour guidance alone.
Choose the right kind of overlay
| Approach | Best suited to | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder sources, such as OBS Image and Text | Static branding or service information that needs direct placement control | Image and text sources can be layered over the video; text can be entered directly or read from a file. |
| Browser-based overlay | Graphics already produced as a web page | Use an encoder feature that can display the page, and test its appearance in the outgoing stream. |
| YouTube Live Control Room break overlay URL | An away or break screen | This is a break feature, not a general-purpose always-on church logo and service-times overlay. |
If the church lacks a way to connect an HDMI camera to its computer encoder, an HDMI capture card may be useful. It is not required just to add the logo or text overlay, and is unnecessary if the existing camera input is compatible.
