Use an OBS Browser Source to place a clock and a location-specific prayer timetable over your mantra video. Set the location and calculation convention before displaying times, then compare the result with the timetable used by the relevant local authority. The steps below cover the overlay and continuous playback; they do not assume a particular city or prayer-time convention.
What you need to decide first
Prayer times are not universal. Before building the overlay, decide what place and timetable it represents. AlAdhan supports requests by coordinates, city and country, or address, and documents multiple calculation methods. Local authorities may also apply adjustments. Choose the convention used by the relevant authority and verify the displayed results against its timetable rather than presenting unverified times as simply “local.” AlAdhan’s Prayer Times API documentation and calculation-method guidance explain these choices.
- Location: choose the city or coordinates the audience should use.
- Calculation convention: select the method associated with the relevant local authority.
- Minute adjustments: apply them only where the authority’s timetable calls for them.
- Display wording: identify the city or region and, where useful, the convention so viewers know what schedule they are seeing.
Because no location or authority is specified here, there are no sample prayer times that can safely be treated as applicable to every stream.
Choose how to build the overlay
Local HTML file
A local page keeps the layout under your control and avoids depending on a hosted overlay page during the broadcast. OBS Browser Source can load a local file or a URL and render it directly in a scene. Hosted overlay
A hosted webpage can be convenient if the page is maintained elsewhere, but the source depends on that webpage being reachable and available to render. Use a URL in Browser Source only if that dependency is acceptable for a continuous stream.
One combined source or separate sources
- One combined page: keeps the clock and prayer schedule together and simplifies positioning, but changes to either element require editing or replacing that page.
- Separate sources: let you position or update the clock and timetable independently, but add sources to manage and can make alignment more involved.
For a straightforward setup, use one transparent HTML page containing both elements. Use separate sources if you need independent placement or maintenance.

Create and add the clock and timetable in OBS
- Prepare the timetable. Obtain the daily times for your chosen location and convention from the appropriate local authority or a calculation service. If generating them through AlAdhan, use the documented location input—coordinates, city and country, or address—and the selected method. Do not assume a method automatically matches local practice.
- Create or obtain a transparent HTML overlay. Include a clock and a clearly labelled timetable. A local clock page is a documented community workflow; the OBS forum resource “Time and Date Overlay updated” describes using a local HTML file as a Browser Source. Add the prayer timetable to that page, or plan to load it separately.
- Add the source. In OBS, select the scene, add a Browser source, and point it to either the hosted page’s URL or the local HTML file. For a local file, enable Local file and browse to the page. The exact appearance of dialogs may vary by OBS version.
- Set the source dimensions. Give the Browser Source a width and height suitable for your stream canvas and the overlay layout. Resize and position it so it does not cover important parts of the mantra video.
- Layer it above the video. In the scene’s source list, place the overlay above the video source. Choose readable text, adequate contrast, and enough spacing to remain legible at the output resolution.
- Check the actual schedule. Compare the displayed times with the relevant authority’s published timetable for the chosen location and date. Correct the location, method, or specified minute adjustments if they differ.
- Preview the complete scene. Check the clock, all timetable labels, text size, transparency, positioning, and video together before broadcasting. Preview the full scene and audio; this workflow does not prescribe an audio-routing setup.
Keep the mantra video playing continuously
The overlay is an OBS scene element; continuous video playback is a separate part of the setup. You can manage media with a playlist or rundown tool while leaving the clock and prayer overlay in the scene. The 24/7 Playout Plugin for OBS documents playlist and rundown playback as well as transparent browser overlays. Its documentation lists a Windows x64 release and recommends OBS Studio 32.x or compatible, so do not assume it is suitable for other operating systems.
A plugin’s playlist features do not establish guaranteed stream uptime. The cited documentation does not establish a universal restart or recovery method for every computer or streaming platform. Check compatibility and test your complete setup before relying on it for continuous broadcasting.

Common problems and fixes
- The clock or schedule does not appear: check that the Browser Source points to the correct URL or file, that Local file is enabled for a file, and that the source is visible in the scene.
- The overlay is cropped or too small: adjust the Browser Source dimensions and its position in the scene, then review it at the stream canvas size.
- The displayed times differ from the local timetable: verify the selected location and calculation convention with the relevant authority, then check whether its timetable uses minute adjustments. AlAdhan notes that methods and local preferences can differ; a few-minute difference is an example, not a universal allowance. Its calculation-method guidance recommends choosing the method used by the issuing authority closest to the user’s base.
- A hosted overlay fails to load: the page may be unreachable or unavailable. Check the URL and connection, or use a local HTML file if you prefer not to depend on a remote page.
- Continuous playback stops: inspect the media playback setup and the computer or playout software. The cited plugin documentation describes its functions and platform scope, but does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 uptime method.
