The page supplies the clock and weather; OBS renders it over your artwork. You can load a local HTML file or a hosted URL, and you do not need a separate physical clock or weather display.
What you need
- OBS Studio running the scene and encoder for your YouTube stream.
- A web page that draws a clock and fetches weather for a chosen location. It can be a local HTML file or a hosted page.
- A location, timezone, and temperature unit chosen deliberately. Do not rely on a weather API’s default timezone.
OBS Browser Source is available in the official OBS packages for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS describes it as “one of the most versatile sources available in OBS.” The source is a browser inside OBS; it does not provide the clock or weather logic by itself.
Build the clock and weather page
Choose a location, timezone, and units
Display the city or other location name alongside the weather so viewers know what place the conditions describe. Use that location’s coordinates in the weather request, and explicitly set its timezone and Celsius or Fahrenheit units. Open-Meteo supports latitude and longitude, current-weather fields, temperature units, and a timezone parameter; its timezone defaults to GMT, while auto resolves a timezone from the coordinates. See the Open-Meteo API documentation.
Choose what to show and how to update it
Render the clock from the page’s time source and update its display regularly. Request only weather fields that help the viewer, such as temperature and condition; wind is optional. Open-Meteo documents current fields including temperature, apparent temperature, weather code, precipitation, cloud cover, and wind. Its current conditions are based on 15-minute weather-model data, not necessarily a live reading from a nearby weather station. Label the data accordingly and do not imply that refreshing the page more often makes the underlying conditions more immediate.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep the page transparent and resilient
Use a transparent background so the lofi artwork remains visible beneath the overlay. OBS Browser Source’s documented default CSS makes the page background transparent, removes page margins, and hides overflow. If the weather request fails, use a graceful fallback: for example, hide the weather value or show the time of its last successful update. This is an implementation choice, not an automatic OBS or Open-Meteo recovery feature.
A local page avoids dependence on an external overlay host, but you must update the file on the streaming machine. A hosted page can be changed remotely, but depends on the host and network being available. OBS supports both local-file and URL sources; the trade-off follows from how those options work.

Add the overlay in OBS Studio
- Open the scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the lofi broadcast.
- Add a Browser Source. In the Sources panel, select the add-source control and choose Browser (Browser Source). Name it clearly, such as “Clock and weather.”
- Choose the page. Enable Local file and select your HTML file, or leave Local file off and enter the hosted page URL.
- Set the viewport. Set the Browser Source width and height to match the dimensions your page was designed for. The source documentation provides configurable width and height; a mismatch can change how the page scales or crops.
- Position it in the scene. Place the source above the artwork in the Sources stack, then move and resize it in the preview. Keep the display legible at phone size and away from the most important parts of the artwork and YouTube player controls.
- Preview before going live. Confirm the displayed location, timezone, units, transparency, and weather loading. Test what viewers will see if the weather request is unavailable.
For a source that should stay available in an always-on scene, check its Browser Source options for unloading when hidden and refreshing when the scene becomes active. OBS documents these controls, but they are not a guarantee that a failed page will recover automatically over a long broadcast.
Check the YouTube broadcast separately
The overlay is only one source in the video sent to YouTube. YouTube distinguishes a liveStream, which carries incoming audio and video, from a liveBroadcast, the viewer-facing video. Google’s guide explicitly describes a 24/7 feed, and a single stream can be bound to as many as three broadcasts. An API broadcast without a scheduled end time is treated as continuing indefinitely; that describes resource behavior, not a promise of uninterrupted service. See Google’s broadcasts and streams guide and liveBroadcasts API reference.

Use YouTube Studio or your encoder workflow to check stream health and broadcast state. Decide separately whether to use archiving, DVR, auto-start, auto-stop, and the latency mode that suits the stream. The API reference says DVR is enabled by default for a new broadcast; to make archived playback available immediately after the broadcast, both archive and DVR must be enabled. Ending a long-running broadcast affects its archive and may require a new broadcast resource or a restart process. Ultra-low latency has limitations: the API reference says it does not support closed captions or resolutions above 1080p.
Check your channel’s current eligibility and YouTube Studio labels before relying on a particular setup, because account-specific eligibility and current UI steps can vary. A 24/7 broadcast configuration does not itself keep OBS, the computer, or the internet connection running.

Weather API access and usage
If you use Open-Meteo commercially, review its current access and licensing terms. Its API reference says an API key is required only for commercial use of reserved API resources; that does not mean every commercial use requires a key, nor does it establish that every use is free.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the lofi video to keep playing without leaving a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo is a separate way to keep a YouTube stream live from uploaded videos. It does not create a clock or weather overlay: prepare the finished video with the overlay already included, then upload that recording.
