In OBS, the usual method is to add the provider’s widget URL as a Browser Source. Test it in the actual scene before leaving the broadcast unattended.
Before you set up the alert
You need three things: YouTube channel memberships enabled and available to your channel, an alert provider linked to that channel, and streaming software with the alert visible in the broadcast scene. YouTube’s [official integration instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9277801) cover connecting Streamlabs and note that memberships or Super Chat must be eligible and turned on before setup.
- Confirm that memberships are enabled for the channel and that the channel is eligible.
- Choose an alert provider that supports YouTube membership events and offers a widget or other integration your streaming software can display.
- Make sure you can edit the scene used for the continuous broadcast and test the alert before relying on it.
Set up a Streamlabs membership alert in OBS
- Link the YouTube channel. Sign in to Streamlabs with Google and follow its YouTube linking flow. Confirm that the correct YouTube account or platform is selected before changing alert settings. See Streamlabs’ Alert Box setup guide.
- Configure the Members event. Open Alert Box settings and select the YouTube Members alert. Choose the visual, sound, duration, and message behavior you want. Configure any event variations you need and save your settings. Streamlabs documents event-specific alert customization in its setup guide.
- Add the widget to OBS. Copy the alert widget URL from Streamlabs, then in OBS add a Browser Source and paste in the URL. Size and position it in the scene. OBS does not generate alerts itself; its Browser Source displays third-party web content such as an alert overlay. If you use Streamlabs Desktop instead, add Alert Box from Sources; the Streamlabs guide also covers adding the widget through its software.
- Place it correctly in the scene. In OBS’s Sources list, keep the alert visible and above any background layer that would cover it. Position it so it does not block important gameplay or other on-screen information.
- Test in the scene that will be live. Use the provider’s test control or software test widget, then inspect the result in the intended broadcast scene. Streamlabs documents testing from its dashboard and software in its Alert Box guide. A successful test checks the visual integration; it does not prove that every real platform event will always arrive.
Make the alert work in a 24/7 scene
Keep the source in every scene where it is needed
The alert can only appear in scenes that contain the alert source. If the broadcast switches scenes, add the widget to each scene where memberships should be shown and test those scenes as well. Streamlabs’ setup guidance describes adding the widget to additional scenes when needed.
Avoid approval settings that need an operator
Streamlabs says unlimited alert moderation delay requires an operator or moderator to accept events; an unaccepted alert will not play. That setting is unsuitable for an unattended broadcast unless someone is actively monitoring and approving alerts. Check whether moderation is enabled and choose behavior that matches how the stream is staffed. See Streamlabs’ Alert Box troubleshooting guide.

Retest after changes
The integration depends on the channel connection, provider widget, browser source, and active scene. Retest after changing software, scenes, account connections, or provider settings. The setup and troubleshooting documentation does not establish a guarantee of uninterrupted alert delivery during a continuous stream.
Choosing an alert provider
YouTube’s integration page documents Streamlabs setup and lists StreamElements for in-stream member recognition and live alerts, including membership-level information. OBS itself does not supply alerts, so the provider must support the YouTube events you want and offer a way to show its overlay in your streaming software.

- Event support: Check whether the provider supports new memberships and any gifted-membership events you want to display.
- Alert details: Check whether the widget can show information such as membership level or gift count.
- Integration: Confirm whether you will add a widget URL as a Browser Source or use a supported plugin or direct integration.
- Testing and styling: Look for a test control and settings for appearance, sound, and duration, then verify the result in your own scene.
Provider pricing, paid-plan terms, and comparative reliability are not established here; check current provider pages for those details before choosing based on cost or service commitments.
Membership alerts and subscriber alerts are different
Do not apply subscriber-alert troubleshooting claims automatically to membership events. Streamlabs says YouTube subscriber alerts may be delayed up to four hours and may not appear when a subscriber’s privacy setting prevents sharing. Those statements concern subscriber alerts; they do not establish the same delay or privacy behavior for channel membership alerts.

What to know about gifted memberships
Streamlabs’ guidance, updated September 2025, says its widgets support gifted membership alerts. It describes defaults that can show the gifter, the number gifted, and an alert for each new member, along with options such as showing a single alert or membership level. The same guidance said YouTube was making the feature available to a limited set of streamers during rollout. Availability can change, so check your account and test the event before depending on it. Troubleshoot an alert that does not appear
- Check the channel and theme. Make sure Streamlabs is connected to the intended YouTube channel and the correct widget theme is selected.
- Check the event settings. Confirm the Members alert and relevant variations are enabled, then save the settings.
- Check the scene and layer order. Confirm the Browser Source is present, visible, and not hidden behind another source.
- Check pauses and moderation. Make sure alerts are not paused and that the event is not waiting for manual approval.
- Refresh the integration. Refresh or remove and re-add the Browser Source, then run another test.
- Investigate visual failures. If the source appears but the alert renders incorrectly, review custom HTML or CSS and alert animation settings, which Streamlabs lists among its troubleshooting checks.
For a widget URL, follow the provider’s current account guidance. If the provider treats that URL as an account-linked credential, keep it private.
