To show a goal that counts YouTube channel memberships on a 24/7 stream, use a third-party overlay such as Streamlabs’ Sub Goal widget. YouTube’s documented native live goals cover Super Chats and eligible gifts on vertical streams, not membership counts. Configure the widget, add it as a source in your streaming software, then verify that it updates and recovers as your continuous stream runs.
Choose the right kind of goal
A membership goal, a Super Chat goal and a link asking viewers to join serve different purposes. Decide which one you want before setting up an overlay.

YouTube says memberships and gifted memberships can be available on horizontal and vertical live streams, subject to feature eligibility. That availability is separate from which events its native Goals feature can count. Check YouTube’s live-stream feature comparison for the relevant format and eligibility details.
Set up a Streamlabs membership goal
Streamlabs’ instructions, last updated October 2, 2025, describe a Sub Goal widget that can count YouTube Members and Gifted Members. The labels and interface may change, so follow the current widget controls if they differ from these steps.

- Open the Sub Goal widget in Streamlabs. Choose the YouTube membership event or events you want the goal to count: Members, Gifted Members, or both.
- Set the goal details. Enter a title, target amount, starting amount and end date. Choose a starting amount that reflects how you intend to track progress; do not assume the widget will automatically match a lifetime channel total.
- Customize and save the widget. Adjust its appearance so the count and goal are legible against your stream. Save the configuration before adding it to a scene.
- Add it to your broadcast. In Streamlabs Desktop, add the goal as a widget source. In compatible streaming software such as OBS Studio, copy the widget URL and add it as a browser source. YouTube describes encoders as a way to stream overlays; the overlay does not require a particular camera, microphone or capture card. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Check the live scene. Confirm the source is visible, positioned correctly and readable at the stream’s output size. If you use multiple scenes, confirm the source is present where you expect the goal to appear.
Make it reliable on a continuous stream
A widget working during setup does not establish that it will update indefinitely in a 24/7 broadcast. The vendor instructions do not promise continuous uptime for every encoder, browser source or stream-restart pattern. Before relying on it publicly, check the goal during your actual continuous-stream setup.
- Verify that the count changes when the relevant YouTube membership event occurs, if you can do so safely in your setup.
- Check that the overlay remains visible after an encoder or stream restart, and confirm whether its progress and starting amount behave as you intend.
- Look for a blank or frozen browser source, hidden scene source, lost widget connection or layout change after recovery.
- Decide how you will monitor the stream and restore the source if the overlay stops updating. Do not treat a 24/7 video loop as proof that third-party overlays are also running correctly.
Give viewers a way to join
A visible target shows progress; a join link gives viewers a next step. YouTube says creators can append /join to their channel URL and share it in stream descriptions and other channel surfaces. For example, use https://www.youtube.com/@YourChannel/join with your own channel handle. Check that the link opens your membership offer while signed in and that memberships are available to the viewer. Details are in YouTube’s membership promotion guidance.

For the actual membership levels and perks viewers may see, consult YouTube Help: Create or manage your YouTube channel’s memberships levels and perks. A goal overlay does not change your membership benefits or YouTube’s eligibility rules.
Other overlay option: StreamElements
StreamElements documents live pop-up alerts for new YouTube members and browser-source overlays. That can announce a new membership, but its cited “Memberships goal” example updates video descriptions; it is not evidence of a live membership progress bar. See StreamElements’ YouTube Creators page. Choose an alert if you want an event notification; use a widget documented to count memberships if you want an on-screen progress goal.
