For several videos in sequence, add OBS’s VLC Video Source, load and order the files, then enable Loop Playlist if you want playback to restart after the final video. That setting loops the list; OBS does not document it as a way to eliminate black gaps between separate files. For one video repeated, use Media Source and enable Loop.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS describes VLC Video Source as allowing a playlist of items, similar to an image slideshow. Its official Media Sources documentation covers both source types and their playback options. The optional plugin’s details are on the OBS Forums listing.
Add and configure a VLC playlist
- Select the scene. In OBS, choose the scene where the playlist should appear.
- Add the source. In the Sources dock, click + and choose VLC Video Source. If the option is unavailable, check that VLC is installed. For 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC.
- Load and order the files. Add the videos to the source’s playlist and arrange them in the desired sequence. Leave Shuffle off for fixed-order playback; OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Set end-of-list behavior. Turn on Loop Playlist if the list should start again after the final item. This controls what happens when the list ends; it is not a documented crossfade or gapless-transition setting.
- Check visibility and layering. Confirm the source is enabled and visible in the scene. OBS renders sources higher in the Sources list over those below them, so put any intended background beneath the playlist source.
- Review visibility behavior. VLC Video Source includes options to stop playback when not visible and restart when visible. Consider these if you switch scenes, since they can affect playback. Network caching is also available, but OBS documentation does not establish that increasing it removes gaps between local files.
- Preview the full sequence. Watch every file boundary and the final-to-first loop in the actual scene before going live. This helps identify problems in your files or scene, but should not be treated as proof that OBS guarantees gapless transitions.

Why black gaps can remain
Loop Playlist restarts playback after the final playlist item; the OBS documentation does not promise seamless handoffs between different files. It also does not establish a universal cause or a guaranteed setting that removes black frames at clip boundaries. A black interval may therefore persist even when the playlist is configured correctly.

Check the visible, observable issues first: whether the source is enabled, whether another source covers it, whether VLC is installed with the required architecture, and whether each file plays by itself in OBS. If the gap occurs only between files, treat it as a transition or file-compatibility problem—not as something a loop or caching option is documented to fix.
Troubleshoot the common failure points

OBS calls MP4 the de facto standard for internet video and describes MKV as compatible with every audio and video encoder supported in OBS. Those general format notes do not guarantee that an individual file will play smoothly or that playlist transitions will be seamless.
