Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAdd music as a separate audio source in your streaming software, then check the audio mixer and balance it so speech and game audio remain clear. Before you go live, confirm that the music licence covers your platform and any VODs, clips, or reuploads you plan to publish. Routing music away from an archive does not make the live broadcast lawful.
Choose music you are allowed to stream
Permission depends on the track’s licence and how you use it. A personal music subscription, purchased download, or CD does not by itself grant permission to share a track in a livestream or its recording. Twitch’s copyright FAQ and DJ Program FAQ explain that the relevant licence terms determine what uses are allowed.
Before choosing a track or service, check its current terms for:
- Whether live streaming is allowed on your platform.
- Whether the permission also covers VODs, clips, and reuploads.
- Whether monetization is allowed and whether attribution is required.
- Any geographic restrictions, and what happens if the licence changes or ends.
Twitch’s Music Options page lists services including Chillhop, NCS, Outertone by RouteNote, Pretzel by Songtradr, StreamBeats, and Monstercat Gold. Treat the list as a starting point, not blanket permission: check the provider’s current terms for your platform and intended formats. Twitch notes that its catalogue counts were accurate “at time of posting”; they should not be treated as current counts. Twitch also says monetized use of Chillhop requires artist credit.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add music in your streaming software
- Pick a licensed source. Use a track or service whose terms cover your live platform and any recordings you intend to keep or publish.
- Add music as its own audio source. In your streaming software, add the music source separately from your microphone and game audio. The exact source type and menu labels depend on the software and how you play the music.
- Check the audio mixer. Confirm that the music meter moves when the track plays and that the source is routed to the live stream. Lower the music until speech remains understandable; monitor the combined sound before broadcasting.
- Test the recording path too. If you make a local recording or publish a platform VOD, check what it contains. Live output and archived audio can use different routing, so do not assume a test of one confirms the other.
Keep music out of Twitch VODs with OBS
If your licence permits music in the live broadcast but you want the Twitch VOD to omit it, OBS Studio’s Twitch VOD track feature can send separate audio mixes to the live stream and the archive. The OBS Twitch VOD Track Guide describes track 1 as the live feed and track 2 as the VOD feed in its example. In OBS, assign sources in Edit > Advanced Audio Properties so the music source is included on the live track but excluded from the VOD track.
That setting changes what is recorded; it does not grant permission to play the music live. Make sure the live use itself is licensed.

What to know about YouTube Live
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; a stream can be interrupted or terminated if the content remains. If you licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Keep a record of the licence and any allowlisting confirmation, and monitor YouTube Studio for warnings or restrictions during the broadcast. Allowlisting does not change the licence terms: your permission still needs to cover the way you use the track.

Do you need a streaming mixer?
No dedicated mixer is required for the basic setup described here: add a separate music source in your streaming software and route it through the mixer. Hardware can help if you need physical controls or more complex input routing. For example, Yamaha documents background-music and voice-chat routing for livestreaming with the AG08. Choose hardware to solve a real input or control need, not as a substitute for music permission.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The music is not audible in the stream: Check that the source is playing, its mixer meter responds, and it is assigned to the live output. Confirm the source is not muted.
- The music is in the Twitch VOD when you meant to exclude it: Reopen OBS Advanced Audio Properties and check the music source’s track assignments against the VOD track. Make a test recording before the next broadcast.
- The music is missing from the VOD but audible live: That can be the intended result of separate track routing. Verify the live output and archive independently.
- YouTube warns, replaces, or interrupts the stream: Stop using the matched content if required. If you have a licence, contact the rights holder to request Content ID allowlisting for your channel, then monitor YouTube Studio.
- You are unsure whether a track is covered: Check the provider’s current licence for platform, live and archive use, monetization, attribution, and geographic limits. Do not infer streaming rights from a consumer subscription or purchase.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running, rather than add music to a live camera or gameplay broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast from a camera. This does not provide music rights: use only music licensed for the stream and its intended recordings. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
