How to Add Multiple Prerecorded Videos to a Streamlabs Desktop YouTube Stream

Add several prerecorded clips to a Streamlabs Desktop YouTube stream by switching between separate sources or scenes, or using a playlist-capable source if your version supports it. Test video, audio, and rights before going live.

To include several prerecorded videos in a Streamlabs Desktop YouTube broadcast, either add each clip as a separate source or scene and switch between them yourself, or use a playlist-capable source to play clips in sequence if your installed version offers one. Streamlabs’ current public setup guide explains scenes and sources, but does not establish a universal multi-file playlist workflow or identical controls across versions. Build the setup, check it in preview, and test playback and audio before going live.

Choose how the clips should play

Method Best for What to check
Separate media sources or scenes, switched manually Choosing when each clip plays, or controlling the order and transitions yourself. Each source’s visibility, position, audio, and playback behavior in your installed version.
Playlist-capable source Playing several clips one after another without manually switching for every clip. Whether your Streamlabs Desktop version exposes a suitable source and lets it access the playlist as intended.
Streamlabs Talk Studio prerecorded-video flow Uploading a prerecorded video and scheduling a stream through Talk Studio. This is a separate upload-and-schedule workflow, not evidence that Streamlabs Desktop queues local files.

VLC documentation describes playing multiple media files successively from a playlist, but the available Streamlabs Desktop guidance does not confirm the integration, source name, or controls in every Desktop release. Treat the playlist route as version-dependent, not a guaranteed feature.

Add clips as separate sources or scenes

  1. Open or create the scene. In Streamlabs Desktop, select the scene intended for the prerecorded segment, or create one for it. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide describes the general scene-and-source setup; exact labels can vary by version.
  2. Add a local video source. In the Sources panel, use its add control and choose the available media or video source for a local file. Follow the controls shown in your installed build; the public guide does not provide an authoritative, version-independent click-by-click local playlist procedure.
  3. Choose manual switching or repeat for each clip. For manual playback, add each clip as its own source or make separate scenes and switch between them during the broadcast. Arrange the sources and set their visibility so the intended clip is shown in the preview.
  4. Check video and audio. Confirm that the picture fits the canvas, the correct source is visible, and the clip’s sound is present at an appropriate level in the audio mixer. Preview the clips and check how playback behaves when a clip ends before relying on it live.
  5. Test the sequence. Play every clip in the intended order. If you plan to switch scenes manually, rehearse those switches; if using a playlist-capable source, confirm that it advances through the list as expected.

Use a playlist-capable source when available

If your installed Streamlabs Desktop version offers a VLC video source or another source that supports playlists, you can investigate it for sequential playback. VLC’s playlist documentation explains successive playback of multiple media files in VLC. It does not establish the exact Streamlabs integration or guarantee that every version exposes the same controls.

  1. Look in the installed version’s available sources for a playlist-capable option, such as a VLC video source, if offered.
  2. Follow that version’s on-screen controls to add the files and arrange their order. Do not assume that a particular button name or playlist panel exists in every release.
  3. Play through the full list in preview. Verify the order, transitions, picture sizing, and audio for each file before using it in a broadcast.

If you do not see a playlist-capable source, use separate sources or scenes and switch manually. For version-specific help, consult the Streamlabs Desktop support index.

Connect YouTube and verify the stream before going live

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel needs to be verified and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to go live. Review YouTube’s get-started guide if you cannot start a stream.
  2. Connect the intended YouTube account and stream. Follow Streamlabs’ YouTube streaming guide to connect the account and prepare the broadcast.
  3. Inspect the preview and mixer. Before starting publicly, check that the correct clip appears in Streamlabs’ preview and that its audio reaches the mixer. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring audio and video quality when using an encoder; see its live-streaming tips.
  4. Test privately or unlisted where appropriate. If practical for your channel and stream setup, run a private or unlisted test before the public broadcast. Otherwise, at minimum verify every clip and scene in preview before starting the encoder.
  5. Start only after confirming playback. Begin the encoder and stream once the intended video and audio are confirmed. Streamlabs’ YouTube guide covers the account connection and source setup path.

Clear rights for every clip and audio track

Use only video, music, and other material for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID so the live broadcast is not interrupted. YouTube’s copyright help explains more about copyright.

Common problems and fixes

  • You cannot find a playlist source. The available sources and controls may depend on your installed Desktop version. Use separate local-file sources or scenes and switch manually, or check the Streamlabs Desktop support index for version-specific guidance.
  • Only one clip appears. With manual sources, confirm the intended source is visible and in the right order, or switch to the scene containing the next clip. With a playlist-capable source, check its list and playback in preview rather than assuming it advanced.
  • The video appears but has no sound. Check the selected source’s audio and the Streamlabs audio mixer, then preview playback again before going live.
  • The clip is cropped, too small, or placed incorrectly. Adjust its size and position in the scene, then verify the result in preview.
  • YouTube interrupts the broadcast over third-party content. A video or audio match may trigger an interruption even during a live stream. Use properly cleared material; if it is licensed, confirm whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel through Content ID.
  • You cannot start a YouTube live stream. Check channel verification and whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
