OBS Studio doesn’t create stream alerts itself. To show alerts during a YouTube Live broadcast, set them up with an alert provider, then add that provider’s overlay URL to OBS as a Browser source. You can add static images and labels separately as Image and Text sources—no alerts plugin is required for the documented workflow.
What you need
- OBS Studio and a scene for your YouTube broadcast.
- An alert provider account connected to the streaming account you plan to use.
- The provider’s alert overlay URL, sometimes labelled Overlay URL, Widget URL or Alert URL.
OBS names Streamlabs, StreamElements, NerdOrDie and OWN3D Pro as provider examples. These examples are not a current ranking, and OBS’s setup guide does not verify each provider’s present-day YouTube event support. Check the provider’s current YouTube documentation for the alerts you want before choosing one. OBS Browser Source is available through official packages for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Set up alerts in the provider’s dashboard
- Sign in to the provider’s website and connect the account you use for streaming, following that provider’s current instructions.
- Open its alert settings and choose which event types to display. Depending on the provider, settings commonly include the alert type, image and sound.
- Use the provider’s preview or test function, if available, to check the alert’s appearance and audio. Copy the resulting overlay URL; keep it private if the provider treats it as a unique widget link.
Provider features, account connection steps and YouTube event support can change. Confirm them with the provider rather than assuming that every listed service supports the same events or options.
Add the alert overlay to an OBS scene
- In OBS, select the scene where the alerts should appear.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose Browser. Give the source a recognizable name, such as “YouTube Alerts,” then confirm.
- Paste the provider’s overlay URL into the Browser source’s URL field. Set the viewport width and height to suit your stream layout and the provider’s instructions, then save.
- Check the scene preview. Drag the alert source into position and resize it as needed. Trigger a test alert through the provider, if available, to confirm it appears in the intended place and that the sound is audible.
OBS Browser source properties also include custom frame rate and refresh options. Leave those at their defaults unless the provider recommends a different setting or you are troubleshooting a specific issue.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add static overlays, images and labels
For a logo, frame, background graphic or label, add a separate source to the same scene. In Sources, click + and choose Image for artwork or Text for a label. Select or enter the content, then position and resize it in the preview; use Edit Transform when you need more precise placement.
Source order controls layering: sources higher in the Sources list appear over those below. If an alert disappears behind a frame or other graphic, move its Browser source higher in the list. Keep decorative artwork from covering important gameplay, captions or the alert itself.

Check the scene before going live
- Trigger a provider test alert and verify its placement, timing and sound in the OBS preview.
- Confirm that the alert is visible above any artwork that would otherwise cover it.
- Check the scene at the canvas size and layout you intend to broadcast, including any resized or cropped sources.
- Verify the provider supports the particular YouTube events you want to display; the OBS integration alone does not establish that support.
Troubleshooting alerts and overlays
The alert does not appear
Check that the Browser source contains the current provider URL and that the source is enabled in the selected scene. Test the alert from the provider’s dashboard and confirm that the provider is connected to the right streaming account and supports that YouTube event.
The alert appears in the wrong place or is covered
Move or resize the Browser source in the OBS preview, or adjust it with Edit Transform. If another source covers it, move the alert higher in the Sources list.

The overlay looks cropped or has the wrong dimensions
Review the Browser source’s width and height and compare them with the provider’s overlay instructions and your scene layout. Adjust the viewport and then check the preview again.
The alert sound is missing
Check that a sound is configured for that alert in the provider’s settings and that the provider test produces sound. If the provider’s test itself has no sound, investigate the provider’s alert configuration before changing unrelated OBS Browser source options.

The Browser source behaves inconsistently
First confirm the URL and provider instructions. OBS exposes refresh options and a custom frame rate in Browser source properties, but changing them is not a universal fix; use a provider-recommended value or test a change only when addressing a specific problem.

If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than broadcast a live OBS scene, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops uploaded videos to YouTube, not camera footage. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
