You can use a prerecorded video in Streamlabs Talk Studio in two ways: schedule the entire file as a YouTube broadcast, or share an MP4 during a live studio session. Scheduling is for a standalone prerecorded show; sharing is for playing a clip within a session that may also include live hosts or guests. The steps and limits differ.
Choose how the video should appear
| What you want to do | Use this Talk Studio feature | Key limit or detail |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast one complete prerecorded video at a set date and time | Schedule a prerecorded video | Streamlabs’ scheduling guide states a 5 GB file limit, a 50-day scheduling window, and duration limits of 1 hour on Standard or 2 hours on Pro/Ultra. |
| Play a video as one source in a live Talk Studio session | Share a video file | Streamlabs’ screen-sharing guide says only MP4 is accepted. You can switch between added videos during the session. |
These are separate workflows: scheduling creates a planned broadcast, while sharing adds a video source to an ongoing studio session. The scheduling limits are those stated in Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Broadcast Scheduling guide; check the current interface because plan limits can change.
Schedule a complete prerecorded video
- Open Talk Studio and select Schedule. Streamlabs’ scheduling guide also lists Shift+J as a shortcut.
- Select + Schedule.
- Choose YouTube as the destination.
- Select Pre-recorded video, then upload the video file. The scheduling guide states a maximum file size of 5 GB.
- Enter the stream title and description, select the date and time, and add a thumbnail.
- Schedule the broadcast, then review the scheduled entry or confirmation to make sure its details are correct.
- At showtime, enter the studio and start the scheduled stream. Scheduling alone should not be treated as confirmation that Talk Studio will begin broadcasting without you; Streamlabs’ scheduling instructions say to enter the studio and press Go Live.
Check duration and scheduling eligibility
Streamlabs’ guide states that a prerecorded file can be up to 1 hour on Standard or 2 hours on Pro/Ultra, and that a stream can be scheduled within a 50-day window. The guide does not display a publication year for these limits, so verify the options shown for your account before relying on them. If your file exceeds the stated duration, this scheduling workflow may not fit it.
Play an MP4 during a live Talk Studio session
- Start or join your Talk Studio session and connect it to YouTube using the studio’s in-app flow.
- Select Share, then choose the video file you want to play.
- Use the video entry in the studio’s left navigation bar to select it. If you have added multiple videos, switch between them there during the broadcast.
- Check the preview and audio before putting the video on the main canvas. Streamlabs says a screen and a video cannot be on the main canvas together.
- When sharing a browser tab or window instead of a local video file, enable Share tab audio if viewers should hear its sound. Audio-sharing availability can depend on your operating system.
Streamlabs’ screen-sharing guide, dated April 25, 2025, specifies that video-file sharing accepts MP4 only. If your file is in another format, this guide does not establish that Talk Studio will accept it through this workflow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check YouTube eligibility, rights, and stream health
- Confirm that the channel can go live. YouTube’s live-streaming guide says channels must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; it also states that livestreamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube Studio for your account’s current eligibility and rules.
- Use content you have rights to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions make the creator responsible for necessary rights to live content, including applicable music licensing. Streamlabs also warns that YouTube may enforce copyright on music shared through Talk Studio. A song being included in a video does not itself establish that you can use it in a live broadcast.
- Test before the scheduled start or live show. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring stream health. Check that the video plays, its audio is audible, and the intended title, description, and thumbnail are in place.
- Do not manually substitute encoder instructions for Talk Studio’s browser workflow. YouTube’s encoder guide recommends RTMPS for encoder workflows. Talk Studio’s process uses its own in-app connection; the steps here do not require you to configure an encoder or enter a stream key manually.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Problem | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Talk Studio will not accept the video when sharing it during a session | The file is not MP4. | Use an MP4 for the in-session Share workflow; Streamlabs’ screen-sharing guide specifies MP4-only video support. |
| The scheduled upload or duration is rejected | The file may exceed the guide’s stated size or plan duration limits. | Check the 5 GB maximum and the stated 1-hour Standard or 2-hour Pro/Ultra duration limits against the current options in Talk Studio. |
| The scheduled time is unavailable | The requested date may fall outside the scheduling window. | Streamlabs’ scheduling guide states a 50-day window. Choose a date inside the window displayed in your account. |
| The scheduled broadcast has not started at showtime | The scheduled entry may still require you to enter the studio and start the session. | Open the scheduled stream, enter the studio, and use Go Live as directed by Streamlabs’ scheduling instructions. |
| Viewers cannot hear shared browser audio | Tab audio sharing may be disabled or restricted by the operating system. | Enable Share tab audio when selecting a browser tab, then test playback. If the OS does not support audio sharing for that source, use a supported source or workflow. |
| YouTube blocks or restricts the stream | The channel may not meet livestream eligibility rules, or the content may trigger a rights issue. | Review the channel’s live eligibility in YouTube Studio and confirm you have the rights needed for every video and music track. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running beyond a Talk Studio session, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps playback running without leaving your computer on, supports whatever quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube only; it is not a camera-based live studio.
