To show them over the video itself, add a text graphic to the encoder scene or production switcher. These are separate jobs: watch-page metadata does not appear as an on-screen lower third, and an overlay does not change the YouTube title.
Choose where the title and speaker name should appear

YouTube’s Manage live stream settings guidance covers event metadata and reuse settings. The Presbyterian Church in Canada’s livestreaming guide describes OBS scenes and overlays as well as switcher graphics.
Set the YouTube watch-page title and description

In YouTube Studio, open Go Live. In the Live Control Room, create a scheduled stream in the Manage tab, or open the event the church already plans to use. Scheduling lets the church promote an upcoming event and may enable viewer reminders; it does not send the video feed.

Set or review the event’s title and description. Include the sermon title and speaker name in the wording you want viewers to see on the watch page. YouTube allows metadata to be selected when creating a stream and edited later, including while scheduling.

Before publishing, verify the details against the actual service. A clear title pattern is Sunday Service — [Sermon Title] — [Speaker Name]. The description can add context such as the speaker, series, scripture reference, service date, church website, or next service details. This is a practical format, not a YouTube requirement.

If you use Reuse settings from a previous stream, inspect the copied title, description, visibility, and other settings, then change what is different for this service. Reuse settings also carries over the stream key, so confirm that the selected key is the one your encoder should use.
YouTube says tags can help when video content is commonly misspelled, but otherwise play a minimal role in discovery. The sermon title and speaker name belong in the title or description if you want viewers to see them as event information.
Put the names and sermon title on the video

In OBS, open the scene that will be used during the sermon. Add a text source for the speaker name and sermon title, or use an image source for a prepared graphic. Position and size it so it is legible without covering faces, slides, lyrics, or other important content.

Make the graphic visible in the scenes where it should appear, and hide or replace it when it no longer applies. For a church using a video switcher, configure its graphic or overlay in the production workflow instead. The Presbyterian Church in Canada guide describes both OBS overlays and switcher-based overlays.

Check the outgoing preview before going live. Confirm the text is readable in the actual video frame and that the correct scene or switcher output is being sent. An overlay is part of the video feed; it will not update the watch-page title or description.
Connect the encoder and start the event

In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the stream’s settings and retrieve the stream URL and stream key for the event.

Enter those details in your encoder or production setup, then start sending the video feed. Keep the stream key private: YouTube uses it to identify where the encoder should send the feed and to accept that feed.

Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check the video and any title overlay, then go live when the event is ready. Creating or scheduling the event alone does not start broadcasting; an encoder still has to connect and send video.

Handle recurring services and continuous playout separately
If the church website uses ChurchApps, its Live Streaming support article documents configuring a service name, day and time, recurrence, and selected sermon or live stream. That configures the church website’s service experience; it does not replace editing the YouTube event’s title and description.
A scheduled YouTube event and a recurring church service listing are not, by themselves, a 24/7 broadcast system. YouTube’s encoder setup describes connecting a feed for an event. The cited official guidance does not establish unattended continuous playout or automatic recovery after an interruption. Plan those as separate operational requirements rather than assuming a schedule will keep video running.

Common problems and fixes

The old sermon title or speaker appears: the event may have inherited metadata through Reuse settings. Reopen the event details and check the title and description before publishing.

The name is on the watch page but not over the picture: metadata and graphics are separate. Add a text or image source to the encoder scene, or configure a switcher overlay.

The overlay does not appear in the broadcast: check that the correct scene is live, the source is visible, and the outgoing preview shows the graphic before going live.

The scheduled page exists but the stream is not arriving: scheduling does not send video. Start the encoder and confirm the stream URL and key in its settings, then check for the incoming preview in Live Control Room.

The encoder cannot connect: confirm it is using the intended event’s stream URL and key. If settings were reused, verify the carried-over key is the one entered in the encoder.
