Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To show the current Gurbani song name inside your YouTube live video, add a text overlay to the scene your encoder sends to YouTube. In OBS, a text source can display text from a file, which you or a reliable update process can change when the song changes. Editing the YouTube stream title instead changes the watch-page metadata, not the words viewers see over the video.
Choose where the song name should appear
There are two different places to display a name:
- Inside the video: Add text to the scene being sent by your encoder. This is the option to use when viewers should see the song name over the Gurbani imagery.
- On the YouTube watch page: Edit the stream’s title or description in YouTube Studio. This changes broadcast metadata; it does not create an on-screen label. See YouTube’s Manage live stream settings.
Add a song-name overlay in OBS
- Open the scene that carries the stream. In OBS, select the scene viewers will see and add a Text source. The OBS Sources Guide describes text sources as customizable text, including text read from a file.
- Choose the text input. For a manually managed sequence, set the source to use a text file and select that file. Place and size the text over the video where it remains legible without obscuring important imagery.
- Set a dependable update method. When a song changes, an operator can update the file with the correct title. For unattended changes, the playback setup or an integration must identify the actual current item and update the displayed text. Test that handoff with the specific player you use.
- Preview the transitions. Check the initial title, a change at a track boundary, long names, and what appears if the title is missing or unknown. Avoid leaving an old title visible when the next item starts.
Playlist playback does not by itself provide a now-playing label
OBS documents a VLC Video source that can play a playlist, loop it, and shuffle it; VLC must be installed for that source to be available. The Media Sources documentation describes playback options, but does not document automatic synchronization from the playlist’s current item to a text source. Treat playback and the song-name overlay as separate parts of the setup unless you have verified an integration for your player.
| Approach | What viewers see change | What it requires | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS text source reading a file | A song name appears in the video image | An OBS scene, a text file, and an operator or process to update it | The displayed name changes only when the file is updated correctly |
| Text source with an automated update | A song name appears in the video image and may change with playback | A player or integration that exposes the current item and updates the text | Verify the metadata handoff and track-boundary behavior for the chosen setup |
| YouTube Studio stream metadata | The stream’s YouTube title or description changes | Permission to edit the stream in YouTube Studio | It does not add text to the video image |
Keep captions separate from song titles
YouTube’s Live caption requirements describe captions as the visual display of audio in a program, with supported ways to send captions. Captions are not documented as a song-title overlay method. Use an OBS text source for a visible track name.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not add or synchronize song-name overlays, so prepare the video with its titles or arrange a separate, tested overlay workflow if names must change during playback.
