Tell viewers plainly that a Super Chat is an optional paid YouTube fan-funding feature: it highlights their message in live chat, but it is not a charitable donation and does not guarantee a particular response. If you are fundraising through YouTube Giving, explain that separately—Super Chats and Super Stickers are turned off on streams with Live Chat Donations.
What viewers are paying for
A Super Chat is a paid message highlighted in live chat. A Super Sticker is a paid animated image that appears there. Both are YouTube fan-funding features. YouTube Help explicitly says, “Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” See YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies.
That distinction matters when you ask for support. A viewer is purchasing a platform feature, not automatically making a charitable gift. Do not describe a creator-directed Super Chat as a donation to charity, imply that all proceeds go to a cause, or leave the destination of the money ambiguous.
Use clear, pressure-free wording
Make participation optional and explain what the purchase does. For example:

“If you’d like to support the stream, you can optionally send a Super Chat. It highlights your message in live chat. It’s a paid YouTube fan-funding feature, not a charitable donation, and you’re welcome to join the conversation without buying one.”
This wording describes the feature without implying that viewers must pay to participate. YouTube’s creator tips recommend thanking contributors and encouraging conversation, including inviting fans to use Supers to ask questions or share thoughts. You can acknowledge a message warmly, but do not promise a specific answer or other benefit unless you have defined that offer and can honor it.

YouTube also says creators are responsible for understanding and complying with applicable laws, including rules about offering or receiving money through Supers. Requirements vary by jurisdiction; the platform guidance does not establish the legal or tax treatment for every location.
When you are raising money for charity
Use YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations to describe charitable fundraising through that feature. It is separate from Super Chat and Super Stickers. YouTube says, “To avoid confusion, Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t available on live streams with Live Chat Donations.” See YouTube Giving FAQs.

You can explain the distinction this way:
“This stream is using YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations for the fundraiser. Those donations go through the fundraiser feature; Super Chats are a separate paid fan-funding feature and are turned off on this stream.”
Do not suggest that a Super Chat contributes to the fundraiser when it does not. If the stream uses Live Chat Donations, viewers cannot send Supers on that stream.

Check that Supers are available before inviting viewers
Eligibility depends on YouTube’s requirements and the individual stream. The channel must meet the applicable fan-funding requirements, including the YouTube Partner Program and Commerce Product Module terms; creators must be at least 18 and live in a supported region. Check your channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before telling viewers they can use the feature. YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies and Supers eligibility guidance describe the platform rules.

- The stream has a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- Live chat or comments are turned off.
Because availability and eligibility rules can change, verify them in YouTube Studio and the current YouTube Help pages rather than relying on an old stream setup or a general promise.
Explain the revenue share accurately
YouTube Help says creators receive 70% of confirmed Supers revenue after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. If viewers ask where the money goes, distinguish creator fan funding from charity fundraising and avoid promising a precise payout. YouTube says creators can view purchase activity and moderate Supers as they do live chat.
