What to back up before modding
Make two checks: one for the installed game files and another for your campaign saves. Northstar’s PC manual-installation guide instructs users to copy its files into the actual Titanfall2 installation folder, which makes a separate copy of that folder useful before changing files. The game folder and the user save folder are distinct locations; backing up one does not establish that you have backed up the other.

- Game files: Copy the entire
Titanfall2installation directory, or at least the files the specific mod will change if you know them. The cited installation guide does not provide a complete changed-file inventory for every mod. - Campaign saves: Separately inspect
DocumentsRespawnTitanfall2profilesavegame. If the folder andsavegame.savexist, copy them too. This is a commonly reported location from an EA forum discussion, not authoritative documentation of a universal path.
Keep the original backup intact until you have launched and checked the modded game. Store the copy somewhere separate from the game’s installation files, such as another suitable location you already have access to. An external drive is optional; no particular device, capacity, or speed is required by the cited guidance.
Find the actual Titanfall 2 installation folder
The folder depends on where you installed the game and whether you chose a custom library or location. Use the storefront to reveal the installed location instead of relying on a default path.

Steam
- In your Steam Library, open Titanfall 2’s properties and go to its installed-files or local-files controls.
- Choose Browse or Browse local files to open the game’s actual folder. The label and route may vary with the Steam interface version; Northstar’s troubleshooting guide describes the Manage → Browse local files route.
- Confirm that the opened directory is the
Titanfall2game folder, then copy it to your chosen backup location.
EA App
- In EA App, open Settings → Download and check the listed install location, or use the game’s View Properties → Install location option.
- Open the listed location and confirm the
Titanfall2folder before copying it.
Northstar’s troubleshooting documentation gives these common Windows defaults as examples, not guarantees: %ProgramFiles(x86)%SteamsteamappscommonTitanfall2, %ProgramFiles%EA GamesTitanfall2, and %ProgramFiles(x86)%Origin GamesTitanfall2. Copy the save files separately
- Close Titanfall 2 and its launcher before copying, so the files are not being changed during the copy.
- In File Explorer, inspect
DocumentsRespawnTitanfall2profilesavegame. If your Windows Documents folder is redirected, check the Documents location your PC actually uses. - If the folder exists, copy it to the separate backup location. Confirm that the copied folder contains
savegame.savif that file is present on your system. - If you cannot find the reported folder or file, do not treat that as proof that a backup of the installation folder contains your saves. The cited forum report does not establish a universal location across Windows configurations or storefronts.

Check that the backup is usable
- Make sure the game-folder copy and any save-folder copy are both present in the destination you chose.
- Keep the two copies identifiable—for example, label them “Titanfall2 game files” and “Titanfall2 saves”—so you can distinguish them later.
- Do not overwrite or modify the untouched backup while installing or testing a mod.
- Cloud synchronization should not be your only safety copy: title-specific cloud-save behavior was not established by the cited sources.
Steam’s backup documentation describes its backup and restore feature and notes compatibility limitations. It says saved games are not included for Valve-created games; that statement is specifically about Valve-created titles and does not establish whether Titanfall 2 saves are included. Steam recommends its method for moving an installation to simplify backup and restoration, but it is not a substitute for checking the separate save location. - Close Titanfall 2 and its launcher before restoring files.
- Keep the untouched backup safe. Restore only the relevant copied files to their original locations if needed.
- Do not assume every mod or storefront can be rolled back with one action. The cited sources do not provide a Titanfall 2-specific, complete restoration procedure.
