Use a Short’s clickable Related Video link to point viewers toward relevant live content. If your stream is already live in YouTube’s vertical live experience, viewers using the YouTube app can pause a Short and tap Live to enter the vertical live feed. A scheduled stream does not appear in that feed, so promote it ahead of time through supported channel surfaces instead. YouTube does not promise that a livestream will stay online continuously, or document a guaranteed 24/7 setup.
Choose the route that matches your stream

These are different entry paths, not interchangeable links. A Related Video is clickable, but YouTube’s guidance does not establish that every creator can attach every live-event URL there or guarantee that the placement will send viewers to a live broadcast.
Make a Short a useful bridge to the stream
Preview something viewers can get more of live
Build the Short around a real moment, recurring segment, or useful preview from the live content. State plainly what viewers can watch next and, for a scheduled event, when it begins. This is a practical editorial approach, not a platform requirement or a guarantee of conversion.
Add the Related Video link
- In YouTube Studio, open the Short’s editing or details controls and find the Related Video setting.
- Select relevant destination content, then save and verify that the intended video is attached.
- Make the spoken or on-screen call to action match the destination. If the related item is an archive or another video rather than a live event, do not imply that tapping it joins the current stream.
YouTube identifies the Related Video link as clickable. By contrast, URLs in Shorts descriptions and comments are not clickable, so pasting a stream URL there is not a reliable route into the broadcast. Channel profile links are clickable too; YouTube allows up to 14 links on a channel page, which can make the profile a useful supporting destination.

Route viewers to a stream that is already live
For vertical livestream discovery, the documented path is in the YouTube app: viewers can pause a Short and tap Live to enter the vertical live feed. YouTube also describes browsing vertical livestreams in the app. This is an additional discovery path for a stream that is live now—not a way to make an upcoming scheduled event appear in the feed.
Do not make live-chat URLs the main route for viewers entering through the vertical feed. YouTube lists live-chat URLs as clickable for horizontal live streams, but not when the stream is viewed in the mobile app’s vertical live feed.

Promote a scheduled stream before it starts
- Schedule the event and make it findable. Use the channel’s Live section and other supported channel surfaces to direct viewers to the scheduled event.
- Share the event link in advance. YouTube recommends sharing the streaming link at least 48 hours before going live. Include the start time and time zone in your own copy so viewers know when to return.
- Publish a teaser or trailer. A Short can preview the subject and invite viewers to visit the scheduled event through a clickable destination where available. Do not suggest the scheduled broadcast will be available in the vertical live feed.
- Post reminders through supported surfaces. Keep the event easy to find from your channel rather than relying on a URL in a Short’s description or comments.
- After the broadcast, keep useful material available. YouTube says public archives can help future reach. A public archive or a highlight can then serve as relevant follow-up content for later Shorts.
Use post-stream highlights without overpromising eligibility
YouTube describes a feature for saving qualifying highlights from mobile livestreams as Shorts. The documented criteria include a stream lasting between 10 minutes and 12 hours, vertical format, streaming through the YouTube mobile app, and chat enabled. Screencasts and Made for Kids streams are among the exclusions. These are eligibility conditions for the described mobile-stream highlight feature, not a general rule that every 24/7 stream can be clipped or converted this way.
Plan the 24/7 operation separately from discovery
Shorts can help viewers discover a channel, but they do not keep a broadcast running. YouTube’s setup guidance covers mobile, webcam, and encoder approaches, recommends testing the stream and monitoring audio and video quality, and describes professional-grade hardware encoders as suitable for higher-production-value events. It does not establish an always-on service or guarantee uninterrupted uptime.

If you operate the stream yourself, treat reliability as an operational responsibility: test the complete setup, monitor the live output, and decide how you will recover if the connection or broadcast fails. Use content you have the necessary rights to broadcast, including music rights, and follow applicable laws and YouTube rules. For a long-running stream, rights clearance matters throughout the loop—not only when you first upload a video.
Measure the path instead of assuming it converts
Check YouTube Analytics and Studio for the performance of Shorts, live streams, and available traffic-source information. Compare your own results over time and distinguish viewers who watched a Short from viewers who entered a live broadcast. YouTube’s documented guidance does not provide a standard Shorts-to-live conversion rate, so any rate should be presented as an observation from your own channel data, not a platform benchmark.
