To broadcast prerecorded videos as an ordered, repeating YouTube Live program, build the playlist in OBS Studio using a VLC Video source: put files in order, turn on Loop Playlist, and leave Shuffle Playlist off. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room with the event’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s watch-page Loop control only repeats playback for a viewer; it does not create or transmit your live program.
Build the repeating sequence in OBS
This workflow uses OBS Studio to play local video files in order and send the resulting program to YouTube Live. OBS requires VLC to be installed for its VLC Video source to be available.
- Install VLC. If OBS does not show the VLC Video source, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- Add the source. In OBS, select the scene that will carry the program, choose Sources → + → VLC Video, and create the source.
- Add files in the intended order. In the source’s playlist controls, add the video files and arrange the list from first to last. Check the sequence before going live.
- Set playback behavior. Enable Loop Playlist and disable Shuffle Playlist. The first setting restarts the sequence after the final file; the second keeps the files in their listed order.
- Check the scene. Confirm the video is visible in the OBS preview and that the audio you intend to broadcast is present. Test the transition from the final file back to the first.
OBS documents these controls for the VLC Video source: OBS VLC Video Source.
Connect OBS to a YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live event. Get the event’s stream URL and stream key there. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. If using a custom ingest configuration, use the stream URL and key provided for the event.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube Live Control Room to receive the encoder signal and show a preview.
- When the preview is ready, click Go live in Live Control Room to start the public event. Starting the encoder output and starting the YouTube event are separate actions.
- While the event is running, watch the stream health indicators in Live Control Room and confirm that the picture, audio, and sequence remain correct.
Set up and test for 4K at 60fps
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers 2160p (4K) at 60fps, but the bitrate recommendation depends on the ingest codec and the official localized guidance surfaced with different values. For example, one English-language rendering lists H.264 at 35 Mbps and AV1/H.265 in a 10–40 Mbps range; another localized rendering lists H.264 at 14 Mbps minimum and 50 Mbps recommended, and AV1/H.265 at 10 Mbps minimum and 35 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube recommendations, not independent test results, and they conflict. Do not treat any one of those numbers as a universal setting: check the current YouTube Live Control Room guidance for the codec and encoder you will actually use. See YouTube Help: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Set OBS output resolution and frame rate to match the 2160p60 program you have prepared, and use a compatible encoder and ingest codec.
- Make sure the upload connection can sustain the selected video bitrate with room for audio and network variation. Test the actual connection and encoder before the event rather than relying on a speed-test result alone.
- Run a test with representative motion and audio. Fast gameplay, camera pans, and detailed scenes can expose compression or dropped-frame problems that a static image will not.
- Monitor stream health during the event and adjust in line with the current YouTube guidance if YouTube reports an issue.
YouTube’s retrieved English encoder guidance says 4K/2160p streams use normal latency; low-latency optimization is unavailable for that resolution in that guidance. Check the current settings for your event if latency matters.
What “YouTube Live playlist” can mean
- OBS source playlist: the ordered local videos OBS sends as the live program. Loop and shuffle settings belong to this source.
- YouTube watch-page playlist: a viewer can enable Loop while watching a playlist. That repeats playback for that viewer; it does not send prerecorded videos to a live event. YouTube documents this viewer control at YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists.
- HLS Media Playlist: in YouTube’s HLS ingest documentation, this refers to a manifest describing how stream segments are reassembled. It is not an OBS playlist of program videos. See YouTube Live Streaming API: HLS ingestion.
- Live Redirect: an end-of-stream handoff to a Premiere or another live stream. It does not loop the current OBS playlist inside the same broadcast. See YouTube Help: Live Redirect.
Keep the broadcast running and compliant
The loop setting repeats files only while OBS is sending the stream. If OBS or the computer stops sending, the sequence does not continue by itself. Use videos and audio you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s copyright and monetization policies before scheduling a long-running stream. Repeating a playlist does not grant rights to its contents or guarantee eligibility for monetization; YouTube may assess the channel and content under its applicable policies.

Troubleshooting
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: install VLC, then restart OBS and check again.
- The files play in a different order: disable Shuffle Playlist and review the file order in the VLC Video source.
- The list stops after the last video: enable Loop Playlist on that source.
- YouTube does not show a preview: check that OBS is streaming, the event’s stream URL and key are correct, and the selected event is open in Live Control Room. Allow time for the incoming signal to appear.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: check the current codec-specific bitrate guidance, encoder output settings, and upload connection; test again with representative content before restarting the event.
- The video looks smooth locally but not on YouTube: verify the encoder is actually outputting 2160p at 60fps, then inspect Live Control Room stream health and the encoder’s dropped-frame indicators.
- The stream ends despite Loop Playlist being on: the loop only governs file playback. Confirm OBS and the computer remain on and connected, and that OBS is still sending to YouTube.
Or let it run in the cloud
