Build the playlist, clear the rights for every track and visual, then send the loop to YouTube Live through an encoder or hosted streaming service. Before making it public, test the transitions and the end-to-start seam in an unlisted broadcast. For a stream longer than 12 hours, keep a local recording if you need a complete replay: YouTube says longer streams may not be captured in full.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube’s current guidance requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A playlist of lofi tracks and a still image or looped animation, with rights that cover the intended live broadcast and any replay.
- A playback and delivery method: an encoder running on a computer or server, or a hosted continuous-stream service.
- A YouTube stream URL and stream key, which you enter in your chosen encoder or service.
A track labeled “free” or “licensed” is not automatically safe for a YouTube livestream. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content matches and may interrupt or terminate a stream. If you have a license, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel in Content ID before launch. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Clear music and visual rights
Make a rights record for each track and visual before you build the schedule. Check the specific license or written permission; there is no universal set of terms for lofi music. YouTube’s livestream terms make the streamer responsible for having the necessary rights to live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other rights participants.
- Who owns or controls the asset, and who can authorize its use?
- Does permission explicitly cover continuous live transmission on YouTube?
- Are the relevant territories covered?
- Is monetization allowed, if you plan to monetize?
- Can YouTube keep an archived replay, and can you keep a local recording?
- Is attribution required, and if so, where and how?
- Can the rights holder allowlist your channel in Content ID, and who should you contact if a match interrupts the stream?
Keep copies of licenses and permission correspondence somewhere you can reach during the broadcast. A license and a Content ID allowlist are separate practical considerations: a license may grant permission, but YouTube may still detect a match and interrupt a channel that has not been allowlisted.

Assemble and test the playlist
Set the track order
Choose a sequence that works as a recurring cycle, not just as a one-time album. Listen to transitions between adjacent tracks and to the final track flowing back into the first. Adjust track order or fades if the wraparound feels abrupt. Do not promise gapless playback unless the playback method has been tested to behave that way.
Choose a visual loop
Pair the audio with a still image or a short animation designed to loop cleanly. Check that the visual itself is licensed for the planned broadcast and replay, and preview its loop point for flashes, jumps or unintended black frames.

Check audio levels and the whole cycle
Listen through the playlist, including its wraparound, before going public. Watch for silence, clipped peaks, sudden level changes, missing tracks and an obvious restart seam. A short test that does not reach the playlist’s end will not reveal problems at the loop point.

Connect an encoder to YouTube Live
- Create the live event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live broadcast and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a signal to your event.
- Configure your encoder. Select YouTube as the destination or enter the stream URL and key in the encoder’s server and stream-key fields. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the standard workflow and supported encoder options, including OBS.
- Start sending the signal. Start playback and the encoder. Wait for the signal to appear in the Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
- Inspect the preview. Check that the video is visible, audio is present and consistent, and the correct event is receiving the signal. Make an unlisted test long enough to hear a full playlist cycle and observe the visual loop.
- Go live and monitor. Once the preview and test are satisfactory, start the event. Keep an eye on the live dashboard and check the public watch page from another device.
YouTube also supports HLS ingestion for suitable encoders, but it requires specific settings and has higher latency than RTMP. Its HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4-second segments, TS format and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Unless you have a reason to configure HLS directly, use your encoder’s supported YouTube preset.

Plan for long broadcasts, archives and recovery
Do not rely on YouTube alone for a full archive
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends a local archive backup; consult its archive guidance. If the complete replay matters, enable local recording and check that the resulting file is present and playable. Dividing a schedule into broadcasts under 12 hours can make archive planning easier, but creates separate live events rather than one continuous event.
Expect DVR limits on very long streams
YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If viewers need to rewind, do not assume DVR will work for an extended broadcast; see YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Prepare for interruptions
Decide what you will do if the playback process, computer, network or power fails. For a self-managed setup, consider automatic process restart and alerts, and monitor audio and video during the run. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends previewing the signal, checking local archive files, and monitoring stream quality. A test and monitoring plan can reduce avoidable production issues, but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or copyright clearance.

- Confirm the channel is eligible to go live and that the right YouTube event and stream key are configured.
- Verify written rights for every track and visual, including live use, replay, territories and monetization where relevant; request Content ID allowlisting when available.
- Test audio levels, the visual loop and a complete playlist wraparound in an unlisted stream.
- Choose who or what will detect a failure and how the broadcast will recover.
- Enable a local recording if a complete archive matters, especially for runs exceeding 12 hours.
