Build a compact C.A.M.P. around a small, enclosed core on manageable terrain, with a naturally limited approach and entrances you can see. That makes the hideout easier to inspect and maintain; it does not make it enemy-proof. Bethesda’s public guidance does not establish guaranteed enemy-spawn behavior or a turret setup that reliably stops attacks.
Choose the site before you build
Start with terrain that lets you place foundations cleanly. Bethesda recommends flat ground as an easier foundation starting point, and its C.A.M.P. guidance notes that a layout may be difficult to reuse after moving if the new terrain does not match. Look for a naturally constrained approach as a practical design preference, not as a rule that prevents enemies from appearing or reaching the C.A.M.P. (Bethesda Support: How does the C.A.M.P. work in Fallout 76?)
Check the placement feedback before committing to a spot. If a planned structure will not place, adjust the footprint or choose ground that better fits it rather than building a complicated design around awkward terrain.
Build a compact, visible core
Put the functions you use most in one small enclosed structure. Keep entrances and open sides in view from the area where you spend time, and avoid unnecessary wings, detached rooms, or elaborate perimeter walls. A smaller layout is easier to scan and maintain.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This also helps manage the C.A.M.P. budget. Bethesda says the budget is limited and that stored objects and blueprints count even when they are not currently placed. Leave capacity for useful objects and changes instead of spending it all on a larger defensive shell. The exact footprint is a design choice, not an official performance threshold. (Bethesda Support: How does the C.A.M.P. work in Fallout 76?)
Use placement modes to solve building-fit problems
Bethesda’s September 23, 2025 C.A.M.P. Revamp release notes describe three placement modes. They provide more ways to fit pieces together, but they do not make a structure more resistant to attacks.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Snap | Works as before, using snapping to help align pieces. |
| Collision | Avoids automatic snapping while still respecting collisions. |
| Free | Uses neither snapping nor collision checks. |
The revamp also allows walls beneath floors and upper floors attached to walls without stairs. Some item types still require ground placement. Bethesda announced the relaxed Adventure Mode building restrictions on September 2, 2025; consult the C.A.M.P. Revamp release notes for the placement details.
Treat turrets and traps as optional, testable tools
Add defensive objects only if you can afford their budget and upkeep. Do not assume a turret covers a particular direction, detects every enemy, or reliably prevents damage: Bethesda’s public sources do not establish a validated turret placement strategy or a guaranteed defense recipe.

- Check sightlines and access in your own layout rather than relying on a universal placement diagram.
- Keep entrances visible and avoid making the footprint harder to inspect with extra layers.
- Use only the defenses you are willing to maintain; do not trade away essential functions to fill the build with defensive objects.
Use a Shelter for a separate interior project
A Shelter is an instanced underground space separate from the main C.A.M.P., with its own budget; its interior saves as you build. It can suit a bunker-style room, display area, or overflow project. Bethesda’s description does not say that a Shelter prevents attacks on the surface C.A.M.P., so treat it as a separate interior space rather than surface protection. (Bethesda Support: C.A.M.P. Shelters – Fallout 76)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not confuse Best Builds with a protected active C.A.M.P.
Best Builds lets players share a snapshot of a C.A.M.P. for others to explore and interact with. Bethesda says the submitted snapshot cannot be destroyed by enemies, nukes, or other players. That protection applies to the shared snapshot, not to the active C.A.M.P. you use in the world. (Bethesda: Best Builds Breakdown)
