Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To build a gaming PC on a budget, set a firm total spend, decide which games and display resolution you are targeting, then choose compatible parts as a balanced system. Spend where it improves the experience you want—often the graphics card for a gaming-focused build—and avoid paying extra for features you will not use. Retailer build guides offer useful dated examples, but their parts lists and price estimates are not independent benchmark results or live quotes.
Decide what the PC needs to do before choosing parts
Start with three decisions: your maximum total spend, the games you want to play, and the resolution and frame rate you want from your monitor. A build aimed at 1080p and one aimed at 1440p may call for different graphics-card choices. Newegg’s June 2026 guides frame their examples around those kinds of targets, but their performance descriptions are retailer guidance, not independent test results.
- Set a complete budget. Include the tower, shipping and tax, plus any monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, operating system, or other item you still need.
- List your actual games and settings. Requirements vary by game; do not pay for capability based only on a generic “gaming PC” label.
- Choose the display target. The monitor’s resolution and desired refresh rate help determine whether additional GPU spending is useful.
- Leave room for storage and small extras. Game-library size and any needed cooler, case fan, or cable can affect the final cart.
Build around a compatible platform, then balance the rest
A gaming PC is a system, not a collection of individually attractive deals. The CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, SSD, power supply, and case must work together. Newegg’s June 2026 example also lists a CPU cooler as a separate category. Start with the CPU platform because it constrains the motherboard socket and memory type; then compare the full platform cost rather than the price of one component alone.
CPU and motherboard
Match the processor to the exact motherboard socket and confirm that the board supports the CPU, including any BIOS requirement. Newegg’s builder guide recommends starting with the CPU and using compatibility filters, while cautioning that edge cases still call for checking manufacturer specifications. Compare the board’s features against what you need rather than automatically buying a premium model.

Newegg’s June 2026 under-$1,500 guide presents AM5/DDR5 and Intel LGA1700/DDR5 alternatives and describes the AMD route as offering a longer upgrade path. Treat that as Newegg’s characterization, not a guarantee about future CPU support or a promise that one platform will be cheaper over time.
Graphics card
Choose the GPU for your games and monitor, and compare alternatives at the price you can actually buy locally. It is often the most consequential part of a gaming-focused budget, but a retailer’s value or performance claim is not a substitute for benchmarks relevant to your games and settings. If your target is 1080p, avoid paying for performance aimed at a higher target unless you expect to use it; if you want 1440p, make sure the GPU choice reflects that goal.

Memory and storage
Newegg recommends 32GB of DDR5 in its 2026 build examples; its builder article characterizes 16GB as a gaming minimum and 32GB as a recommendation for streaming or editing. These are retailer recommendations, not a universal requirement for every game. Check the motherboard’s memory generation and supported configurations before buying.
Both Newegg budget lists use a 1TB NVMe SSD as an example. Whether that is enough depends on your game library. If you expect to add storage, include the cost and verify that the board has an available compatible M.2 slot or other interface you plan to use.

Power supply, case, and cooling
Choose a power supply with suitable capacity and the connectors required by the selected graphics card; check the card maker’s exact requirements. Confirm the case supports the motherboard size and has enough clearance for the GPU and cooler. Do not pay extra for elaborate cooling or RGB without a concrete reason: check whether the CPU includes a cooler, whether the case includes fans, and whether any separately selected cooler fits the case and supports the CPU mounting system.
What retailer build examples can—and cannot—tell you
The following figures are examples published by Newegg in June 2026, not current quotes, independently validated part recommendations, or guaranteed totals. Newegg’s June 26 guide says GPU prices fluctuate weekly; local stock, shipping, and tax can change the cart total.

Assemble the PC and check that it boots
Use the motherboard manual and each component’s instructions as the authority for model-specific details. Newegg’s guide describes a general build sequence; work on a clear, well-lit, static-safe surface, and keep a Phillips #2 screwdriver handy if you do not already own one.
- Install the CPU, RAM, and M.2 SSD on the motherboard before fitting the board in the case, following the manual for CPU handling, memory slots, and SSD fastening.
- Mount the motherboard and power supply in the case, then connect the required motherboard and component power cables.
- Install the graphics card and connect its required power cables. Connect case fans and front-panel wiring according to the motherboard manual.
- Power on and enter BIOS/UEFI. Confirm that the system detects the memory and storage. Enable a memory profile only if it is supported and you want to use it.
- Install the operating system, then install the motherboard chipset drivers and graphics drivers.
If the PC does not start or a device is missing in BIOS, switch it off and recheck the relevant power, seating, and header connections against the component manuals before trying again.
Recheck the cart, not just the headline price
Once the parts appear compatible, price the exact models available to you and inspect the final checkout amount. Include shipping, tax, and anything missing from the tower build. If the total exceeds your ceiling, revisit optional features or adjust the target you chose rather than buying an incompatible bargain or cutting a part the system needs. The right budget build is the least expensive compatible system that meets your own game and display goals—not the one with the most impressive specification in a retailer list.
