Wizards of the Coast’s Star Trek tabletop set is scheduled to release November 13, 2026, and was announced as available for preorder in July 2026. To build a Star Trek-themed Magic deck, first choose what “build” means for you: pick a complete Commander deck, learn with a teaching deck, or collect cards to assemble your own. The announced products do not yet establish a card-by-card custom recipe.

Pick a Commander theme
Commander is the clearest route if you want a complete, faction-themed Star Trek deck rather than a collection of packs to sort and combine. Wizards describes the four announced products as ready-to-play 100-card Commander decks. Choose by the part of Star Trek you want the deck to represent, not by unverified assumptions about its strengths in play.
| Deck | Theme to choose it for |
|---|---|
| Federation Fleet | The Federation |
| Landing Party | An away-team adventure |
| Klingon Fury | Klingons |
| We Are the Borg | The Borg |
Wizards’ product page describes these as “Four ready-to-play decks built for Commander, Magic’s most popular multiplayer format – each themed after iconic crews, fleets, and armies from Star Trek history.” See the official Star Trek product page for the announced themes.

What comes in a regular Commander deck
Each announced regular deck includes a foil face commander, 99 other cards—including 32 new-to-Magic cards—10 double-sided tokens, a reference card, and a deck box. That is a complete product, not a suggested skeleton that requires you to buy a separate mana base before you can begin.
Regular and Collector’s Edition are finish tiers
Wizards lists an announced MSRP of $74.99 for a regular Commander deck and $159.99 for a Collector’s Edition Commander deck. The Collector’s Edition includes Surge Foil cards. These are announced MSRPs, not guaranteed retailer prices or evidence that one version is a better gameplay choice; check a retailer for its current price and availability.

Use Welcome Decks if you are new to Magic
A 100-card Commander deck can be a lot to learn at once. If you need to understand the basic rules first, Wizards plans five Star Trek Welcome Decks for participating Wizards Play Network stores. Each is a 40-card monocolor teaching deck with a reference card and deck box. These are designed to introduce basic Magic, not to serve as one of the four announced Commander products. Store participation and availability may vary.
Wizards’ announcement says, “Welcome Decks have everything you need to start learning, playing, and loving Magic.” Read the Welcome Deck announcement for the program details.

- BUILD—Construct a 40-card deck with your draft selections, adding any number of Basic Lands (we recommend 17)

Build a custom deck from Star Trek cards
If your goal is a deck built from cards you select yourself, Play Boosters are an announced way to acquire cards from the set, but opening a pack is not a reliable way to get a specific card. The official material establishes that you can build a Star Trek deck from the set; it does not provide a verified custom list, guaranteed card contents, or a tested upgrade plan in the details available here. For that reason, a responsible custom build should wait for complete card and decklist information rather than treating a faction name as proof of particular mechanics or synergies.
Wizards identifies the main set as TRK, Star Trek Commander as TRC, and Stardates as SDS. Its announced legality is not identical across those products:
Rank #4
- SHOW OFF THE SPLENDOR OF STAR TREK AND MAGIC—Claim your favorite icons to play and display with Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Scene Boxes
- ENTERPRISE-Q—The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise encounters Picard’s longtime adversary, Q. Will the trickster’s machinations bring woe or wonder?
- COMBINE 6 BORDERLESS CARDS TO MAKE THIS SCENE—Upgrade your deck or collection with these six Borderless Scene cards and piece them together to reveal the full story
- PUT YOUR ART ON DISPLAY—While each Scene Card is a playable Magic card (including game text), this box also contains 6 art-only cards, allowing you to appreciate the scene in all its glory on the included display easel
- 3 BOOSTERS FOR PLAYING WITH FRIENDS—Each Scene Box also comes with 3 Play Boosters; the best way to discover what Magic has to offer, they're perfect for building decks, playing games with friends, and are tons of fun to open
| Card grouping | Announced format legality |
|---|---|
| TRK, the main Star Trek set | All formats |
| TRC, Star Trek Commander | Commander, Legacy, and Vintage; individual cards are also legal in formats where they were already available. |
| SDS, Stardates | Commander, Legacy, and Vintage; individual cards are also legal in formats where they were already available. |
Before building for a specific event or playgroup, check the current official legality information for the cards and format you intend to play. A card’s Star Trek branding does not by itself tell you where it is legal.

What to wait for before tuning a deck
- Wait for complete decklists and individual card details before planning commander swaps, mana changes, or synergy packages.
- Do not treat announced MSRP as a live quote; retail pricing and inventory depend on the seller and date.
- For a budget or singles-based custom build, compare actual card availability and prices once listings exist rather than assuming a booster will supply the cards you want.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
