To build a strong dagger in The Forge without burning rare ores, use the smallest ore load that the current forge reliably turns into a dagger, then choose ores for useful multipliers or traits. The available guides disagree about dagger thresholds, so do not rely on an old fixed recipe: check the live forge or current official update notes before committing scarce materials.
Why there is no reliable fixed dagger recipe
Unofficial guides and the community wiki do not agree on the ore count needed for a dagger. One guide describes a one-to-five-ore range under a Winter 2025 weight system, while another describes the requirements differently; the community Fandom page gives a three-ore minimum. These are not official game documentation, so their numbers should be treated as version-sensitive rather than guaranteed cutoffs.
That disagreement matters because ore count can affect the weapon class produced. A recipe copied from an older guide may use more rare materials than necessary or yield a different class in the current version. Check the forge interface or official update notes for the current target before crafting.
Choose ores for the build, not just their rarity
Guides describe ore multipliers as affecting item stats, and special ore traits as another factor that can affect weapons or armor. Rarity alone does not establish that an ore is the best choice for a dagger. Favor a high multiplier or a trait that supports the way you intend to use the weapon, and confirm the trait’s current activation rules before spending a scarce ore.

Avoid adding weak, low-multiplier filler merely to reach a presumed threshold. If the current forge does require a larger load to target a dagger, weigh that class outcome against the lower average multiplier the filler may bring to the mix. Guides also describe a limit of four ore types in a recipe; adding more distinct ores does not automatically improve the result.
Compare recipes before spending rare ores
There is a real trade-off between making a basic dagger cheaply and pursuing a rarer dagger variant. Compare candidate mixes against the same criteria rather than choosing a recipe because it is labeled “best.”

- Trait: Whether a special effect is useful for the intended build and currently activates as expected.
- Crafting quality and runes: Whether execution or later rune choices contribute to the outcome you care about.
The available sources do not establish a reliable ranking of specific recipes across these factors, so no named ore combination can be presented as a guaranteed best dagger build.

Multiple guides say the forging minigames affect finished-item quality or stats. Complete them carefully, but do not count on a particular bonus percentage: the available sources do not verify a current exact figure for a perfect run.

A community wiki says ore multipliers affect damage or defense, but not weapon attack speed, which it describes as fixed per weapon and improvable through runes. Because this is secondary wiki information and may change, check the current in-game weapon and rune details before planning a build around attack speed.

A resource-conscious crafting sequence
- Confirm the current dagger target: Check the live forge interface or current official update notes for the ore load that targets a dagger. Do not assume an older guide’s threshold still applies.
- Set the build goal: Decide whether you want a basic dagger or a particular variant, and identify the stat or trait you want the ore mix to support.
- Use a purposeful mix: Keep the number of ore types limited, and avoid low-multiplier filler unless the current class requirements make the added count necessary.
- Review the cost and expected result: Consider class outcome, variant, rare-ore cost, average multiplier, and trait usefulness together before committing the materials.
- Play the forging minigames carefully: Aim for a high-quality craft without assuming an unverified numerical bonus.
- Inspect the result in-game: Check the finished dagger’s stats and traits, and verify any rune effects before deciding whether the mix met your goal.
