Choose your specialization first: Skyward is an aerial, technical build that turns Sharp stacks into finishers, while Vanguard is a fast, proc-driven build built around sustaining Valor Cyclone. Before choosing a specialization, use the leveling setup and rotation below; once you specialize, switch to that branch’s priorities rather than treating one gear plan as universal.
Choose your Wind Knight specialization
Wind Knight is a lance-wielding DPS class with two distinct specializations. Prydwen’s specialization guides, visibly last updated January 24, 2026, describe different rotations, stat priorities, and gear assumptions. The recommendations below are guide targets, not official game metrics or guaranteed current-meta requirements; check current in-game skill descriptions and patch changes before committing endgame resources.
Skyward: aerial finishers and resource management
Skyward combines aerial movement with grounded attacks. Its central loop is to generate Sharp stacks, use skills and buffs to build momentum, then spend Sharp with Instant Edge and other finishers while managing Courage and Chasing Step. Prydwen characterizes the specialization as technical because it asks players to track several resources and cooldowns at once.
Prydwen’s qualitative ratings for Skyward are 4/5 AoE damage, 5/5 single-target damage, 4/5 utility, and 5/5 difficulty. These are the guide publisher’s judgments, not official or measured in-game ratings.

Vanguard: proc-driven damage and Valor Cyclone
Vanguard revolves around chance-triggered abilities and using enhanced abilities quickly. Its signature skill, Valor Cyclone, is a toggleable pulsing aura that consumes Courage over time. The practical challenge is responding quickly to procs while generating enough Courage to keep the aura running.
Prydwen rates Vanguard 4/5 for AoE damage, single-target damage, utility, and difficulty. These are editorial ratings from the guide, not game statistics.

Build Wind Knight before specialization
The pre-specialization leveling setup is a transition, not an endgame build. The fan guide recommends equipping Galeform, Spiral Thrust, and Breach Pursuit as they unlock, then following this priority order:
- Activate Galeform when it becomes available.
- Use Gale Thrust while Sharp stacks are below maximum.
- At maximum Sharp stacks, use Spiral Thrust.
- While Spiral Thrust is on cooldown, use Gale Thrust.
- Use Breach Pursuit when Courage is low.
- Use Typhoon Cleave when Courage is depleted.
- Use Windborne Grace during downtime.
After unlocking Skyward or Vanguard, move to that specialization’s skills, resource loop, and stat priorities rather than assuming the leveling order remains optimal. The leveling source is a fan guide and disclaims affiliation with the game’s developers or publisher.

Build Skyward after specialization
Use this combat cycle
- Generate Sharp stacks with the skills and effects available in your setup.
- Use resource-generating skills and buffs to support the next damage window, while tracking Courage and Chasing Step.
- Spend Sharp stacks with Instant Edge and other finishers instead of letting the cycle stall at maximum stacks.
- Rebuild Sharp and repeat, adjusting around cooldowns and the fight’s movement or target changes.
This describes the guide’s core loop rather than a fixed button-by-button rotation: exact timing depends on available talents, cooldowns, and the encounter. Prydwen identifies Instant Edge as a high-priority skill to advance. Galeform, Falcon Toss, Sharp Impact, and Skyfall also contribute importantly to the recommended build. Its talent discussion emphasizes generating Sharp stacks and interacting with Wind Fury effects.
Prioritize Skyward stats and gear by level
Prydwen’s stat tuning target for its endgame setup is 45–50% Crit Rate and more than 32% Attack Speed, then Versatility and Mastery at similar value. These figures belong to that guide’s high-level assumptions; they are not universal thresholds for leveling characters or every balance version.

Keep the guide’s gear stages separate: its entry-gear section assumes level 60 gear and a level 70 weapon, while its endgame recommendation assumes level 140/150 set gear and a level 150 relic weapon. The endgame setup relies heavily on Crit Rate, so do not treat its equipment targets as a starter loadout.

Balance Valor Cyclone with Courage
Vanguard’s core task is to exploit proc-triggered abilities promptly without letting Valor Cyclone drain Courage faster than the build can replenish it. Treat the aura’s Courage cost as a resource-management constraint: maintain the cycle of generating Courage and reacting to enhanced abilities, rather than leaving the toggle running without regard to your available resource.

Prioritize Vanguard stats and gear by level
Prydwen’s explanatory guidance recommends building Haste to around 33%, then investing in Mastery and Versatility. Crit Rate remains useful, while Luck is a lower priority. The guide’s displayed stat order is Crit Rate, Haste, Luck, Mastery, then Versatility; its explanation gives Haste a special early target because it improves Valor Cyclone hit rate and access to enhanced abilities. Read the order together with that target rather than as a reason to ignore Haste.
As with Skyward, Prydwen’s Vanguard endgame recommendations assume level 140/150 set gear and a level 150 relic weapon. Those are high-level guide assumptions, not requirements for a new or leveling character.
Plan gear without mixing build stages
Gear targets change with character progression and specialization, so compare like with like: entry gear against entry gear, and endgame targets against endgame targets. BP Events lists Wind Knight’s primary attribute as Strength and provides a community gear simulator and reference tables for comparing stat rolls by slot. Use it as a planning reference for available roll combinations, not as an official source or a replacement for checking your in-game gear.
Prydwen’s specialization guidance shows a visible last-update date of January 24, 2026. The available information does not establish whether later balance updates changed these recommendations. Treat its exact stat targets as dated guide advice and confirm skill behavior and patch changes in the game before investing heavily.
