To run a 24/7 YouTube playlist from prerecorded files, send the files through an encoder to YouTube Live, then start the event in YouTube Studio. You can do this with a computer that stays on or a cloud service that plays uploaded videos. Before building the rotation, confirm live-stream access and rights for every video and audio track.
1. Check YouTube access and content rights
If your channel has never streamed live, YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Set it up well before your planned start. YouTube’s encoder setup help describes the steps for going live.
Make sure you have the rights to use every video and audio track in a live stream. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination; a strike can also terminate a stream. If you have licensed material that is registered with Content ID, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel. A license alone does not ensure uninterrupted streaming. 2. Organize the media folder and rotation
Make the library predictable
- Put only the videos you intend to stream in the rotation folder, or create a separate playlist in the playback software.
- Use clear filenames and arrange the order deliberately. These are practical organization tips, not YouTube requirements.
- Confirm the playback source can access the files for the full session. With a local setup, the computer and its storage must remain available.
Decide how the rotation should behave when it reaches the end: for a continuous feed, configure the playback source to repeat the playlist. Check the current instructions for your chosen encoder or playback software; YouTube’s setup page does not document particular playlist controls.

Choose local playback or cloud playback
A local encoder gives you control over the files and playback setup, but depends on your computer, storage, power, network, and encoder staying available. A cloud service shifts continuous playback to a provider. Compare how each option stores and updates the library, handles ordering and transitions, recovers from interruptions, and fits your costs. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software and Gyre as a cloud tool for streaming prerecorded videos 24/7, but does not provide an independent reliability comparison or current pricing for them. Check each provider’s current features, cost, and terms before choosing.
3. Create the YouTube live event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Labels may change over time.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into the encoder’s streaming settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set the encoder’s playback source to the intended playlist or folder and configure it to repeat. Start the encoder’s output to YouTube.
YouTube’s encoder help covers connecting an encoder and starting a stream. It does not document current OBS playlist-source controls, so consult current OBS documentation for exact setup steps if you use OBS.

4. Start the feed and verify it
- Start sending the video from the encoder.
- Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room.
- Check that the preview shows the intended video and that audio is present if the playlist includes sound.
- Select Go live in Live Control Room to make the event viewable.
- After launch, check both the encoder output and YouTube preview to make sure playback continues and the intended rotation is running.
5. Understand broadcasts, streams, and archives
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the broadcast—the watchable event—from the stream carrying the audio and video. Its guide describes a 24/7 setup in which a creator keeps one broadcast live while creating another video from the same stream. This is an API-level pattern, not a required setup for every creator. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not guarantee an archive for a longer continuous session, so do not rely on a 24/7 broadcast being saved as a complete replay. For a long-running feed, plan separately if you need a durable copy of the source videos or a specific archive.

6. Troubleshoot common problems
Live streaming is not available
If this is the channel’s first live stream, enable live streaming and allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Check that the encoder is sending to the stream URL and using the correct stream key for the event. Confirm the encoder is actively outputting and return to Live Control Room to check for a preview.

The playlist stops or cannot find a file
For a local setup, verify that the computer is still running, the storage is connected, and the playback source still points to the correct files. Check the playlist’s repeat setting and confirm its file order. A cloud setup instead depends on the provider’s handling of storage, playback, and recovery; consult its current service documentation.
The stream is interrupted by a copyright match
Review the affected content and rights. If licensed Content ID material is involved, contact the rights owner about allowlisting your channel. YouTube’s copyright guidance warns that licensed third-party content can still be interrupted without an allowlist entry.
