Build the schedule in YouTube Studio or with the YouTube Live Streaming API, then use a separate encoder or cloud workflow to play the right video at the right time. Test the rotation before announcing it as automatic.
Choose how the seven-day rotation should appear
First decide whether viewers will see seven separate livestream events or one continuous stream. YouTube’s scheduling tools manage events; they do not, by themselves, select and rotate prerecorded video for the outgoing feed.

Separate events make each day easier to promote and give viewers a distinct watch page. A continuous stream avoids restarting a new event daily, but depends on a production system that can keep sending video and manage the rotation. The right choice depends on the audience experience and how you can reliably operate the feed.
Build the weekly schedule before creating events
Write down the complete rotation so event setup and video playback use the same plan. Include the timezone explicitly; a timetable without one can lead viewers to arrive at the wrong time.

- Weekday and start time, with timezone.
- Video or file identifier and the event title and description.
- Expected duration and whether the slot has a planned break.
- Rights status for the video, music, and other included material.
- The person responsible for updates and for communicating schedule changes.
Choose a cadence you can sustain. YouTube recommends deciding what content belongs on which days, introducing the livestream schedule to viewers, and communicating changes. Its guidance says, “A consistent, sustainable release schedule is critical when building and fulfilling audience expectations and maintaining your well-being.” See YouTube’s live upload schedule tips.
Schedule seven separate livestream events in YouTube Studio
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream. The labels may change as YouTube updates Studio; consult YouTube’s live streaming help if the path differs.
- Create the first event. Enter the date, start time, title, description, and other event details. Make sure its timezone and video assignment match your rotation plan.
- Create the remaining six events. Set each date and time deliberately. Do not assume creating one scheduled event automatically creates recurring events for the rest of the week.
- Reuse settings where appropriate. YouTube’s Reuse settings option copies metadata, settings, and the stream key from a previous stream. Review the copied details before saving: the event date, title, description, and any settings that should differ must match the new slot. Reuse settings reduces repeated setup; it is not a recurring calendar or video-rotation feature. Details are in YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Check each watch page. Confirm the event is scheduled for the intended time and that its title and description identify the right day and video. Share the weekly timetable with its timezone and tell viewers how you will announce changes.
Scheduled events can provide a watch page that viewers can share and use to opt into reminders. For separately scheduled events, the production workflow still needs to send the correct video to the corresponding event.

Use the API when you need programmatic event creation
For an automated event-management workflow, Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documents a pattern using one reusable liveStream configuration and multiple liveBroadcast resources. Create the broadcasts, bind each to the stream configuration, then transition each event when it is time to go live. Each broadcast is a distinct event with its own video content. The API pattern helps manage a series of events; it does not document automatic seven-day prerecorded-video rotation. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.
Use the API only if you are prepared to manage the event resources and transitions in your own software. It does not remove the need for a separate playback and encoding workflow.

Make the prerecorded video reach YouTube in the intended order
An encoder sends the video feed to YouTube. You need a playback/encoder setup that can play each assigned file and, if you choose a continuous stream, advance through the sequence and return to day one after day seven. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to create a stream with an encoder and lists software and hardware options; it does not guarantee that a YouTube playlist can serve directly as a live input or specify a playlist-looping application. Verify the selected workflow end to end before relying on it. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guide and its verified encoders information.
For a higher-production event, YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders, but the cited guidance does not make a specific model necessary for a seven-day rotation. A software encoder may suit some creators; choose based on your production requirements and verify its playlist or automation behavior rather than assuming it.

Test the schedule, video order, and stream health
- Test the playback sequence. Confirm the correct file plays in every slot. For a continuous feed, observe the transition between videos and verify that the rotation returns to the first item after the seventh.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Before relying on an event, confirm that YouTube receives the intended picture and audio and that the scheduled event is accessible to viewers.
- Monitor stream health. Keep an eye on the feed during the event and have a plan for interruptions. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; see its encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.
- Verify the viewer-facing timetable. Check that published times include the timezone and that any planned breaks or changes are clear.
Plan around archives and long runtimes
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not infer from that statement that a single seven-day stream will be archived in the same way. If archives matter, separate daily events may better fit the intended viewing and archive experience; check YouTube’s current guidance before relying on archive behavior for a longer continuous feed.
