YouTube’s general guidance says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after those deductions, but your applicable Commerce Product Module agreement and finalized AdSense for YouTube records determine the rate and settled amount. YouTube’s channel-membership guidance explains the share and refund deduction.
The calculation
Use this working formula:
Net membership revenue after refunds = (membership revenue recognized by Google after applicable taxes and fees × your applicable revenue-share rate) − refund deductions charged against your creator share.
YouTube says payment-processing costs, including credit-card fees, are currently covered by YouTube. The general 70% share is guidance, not a substitute for the terms that apply to your channel: check your Commerce Product Module agreement and use finalized account records for settled figures.
Example
Suppose eligible membership revenue recognized after applicable taxes and fees is $100 and the applicable share is 70%. The pre-refund creator share is $70. If finalized account records show $7 in refund deductions charged against that share, the net amount after those refunds is $63. The $100 and $7 are hypothetical inputs to illustrate the arithmetic, not figures published by YouTube.
Do not subtract a member’s full original payment again if your starting amount is already a creator-share figure or already reflects the refund. YouTube describes the refund adjustment as a deduction of the creator’s share. Reconcile against the actual AdSense for YouTube records to avoid counting the same deduction twice.
Find the right figures in YouTube Studio and AdSense
- In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, then Revenue. The channel-membership guidance identifies the Transactions Revenue card for membership transaction counts and membership details under How you make money for a more detailed revenue breakdown.
- Treat Analytics revenue as an estimate, not a finalized payout amount. YouTube’s Analytics guidance defines membership revenue as an estimated metric.
- Check AdSense for YouTube for finalized earnings. The amount can differ from Analytics estimates.
- For timing, YouTube says finalized earnings for the previous month are added to the account balance between the 7th and 12th of each month. It also describes estimated-revenue adjustments after one week and around the middle of the following month. These are reporting timelines, not a guarantee of when an individual refund line will appear.
See YouTube Analytics revenue guidance and YouTube’s finalized earnings guidance. YouTube’s public guidance does not specify a universal per-refund posting date or a particular downloadable ledger field for reconciling each transaction across periods.

Separate cancellations from refunds
A cancellation stops future membership charges, but benefits generally continue through the end of the current billing cycle. YouTube says it does not issue a refund or credit for the partially elapsed period simply because a member cancels. A refund is a separate outcome: when YouTube grants one, it deducts the creator’s share from AdSense for YouTube. Members who subscribed through Apple must request refunds through Apple under Apple’s refund policy. See YouTube’s membership guidance and its membership cancellation guidance.
Reconcile without mixing amounts
When checking a month’s result, keep these distinctions clear:
- Estimated versus finalized: Studio Analytics is useful for estimates and membership reporting; AdSense for YouTube shows finalized earnings.
- Member revenue versus creator share: apply the share rate to eligible revenue after applicable taxes and fees; do not treat the member’s full billed amount as the creator’s take-home amount.
- Cancellation versus refund: cancellation prevents future charges; it does not by itself mean the current paid period was refunded.
- Refund amount versus share deduction: use the refund deduction charged against your share shown in settled records, and verify whether the amount you started with already incorporates it.
The public guidance establishes that a granted refund reduces the creator’s share, but it does not prescribe a universal bookkeeping or tax treatment. For accounting across periods or jurisdictions, follow your account records and applicable professional advice.
