Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can check whether a PS5 controller is registering movement while its stick is untouched, but PlayStation does not document a stick-calibration menu for the standard DualSense. Start by checking whether the problem is game-specific, then reset and update the controller. DualSense Edge owners can adjust stick deadzones; persistent drift on a standard DualSense may require hardware repair.
Check whether the controller is actually drifting
First compare the controller in another game or in the PS5 menus. If the unwanted movement occurs in only one game, check that game’s control settings before treating it as a controller fault.
For a more direct check, connect the controller to a desktop browser and use the PS Clinic controller test. It supports DualSense through WebHID in browsers such as Chrome or Edge on PC or Mac; phones and tablets are not supported. Observe whether the stick’s input indicator moves while you leave the stick untouched, then move the stick through its range. A tester shows what the connected controller reports—it does not repair the controller, and the source does not establish a universal numeric threshold for diagnosing drift.
Reset and reconnect the DualSense
PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance recommends resetting the controller when it has issues. Follow these steps:

Update the controller software
PlayStation says DualSense device software updates are added with PS5 system software updates. To check for a controller update manually, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. You can also update the controller using PlayStation Accessories on a Windows PC. Menu wording may change; consult PlayStation’s controller support page for current instructions.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Can you calibrate a standard PS5 controller?
PlayStation’s published instructions cover resetting, reconnecting, and updating the standard DualSense; they do not document a user-facing stick-calibration setting for it. A third-party tester or calibration utility is not an official PlayStation calibration feature.
PS Clinic offers center and range calibration controls for supported controllers, but warns that its utility cannot fix stick drift. It says worn mechanical parts need replacement to resolve the underlying problem, and calibration without replacing worn sticks may temporarily help or make the issue worse, with no way to undo that change. Treat it as an optional advanced tool—such as after a repair—not as a first-line fix. The page identifies its version as 2.32 (2026-08-27); that is a software version marker, not evidence of a repair success rate.

DualSense Edge: adjust the deadzone, not the hardware
DualSense Edge owners can customize stick sensitivity and deadzones in a custom profile. On PS5, go to Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles > Stick Sensitivity/Deadzone. PlayStation documents these controls for Edge profiles; they are not a standard DualSense setting.
A larger deadzone can ignore small readings near the stick’s center and reduce their effect in game. It changes how input is interpreted; it does not restore worn components. See PlayStation’s DualSense Edge support for profile controls.

When drift points to a hardware repair
If unwanted input continues across games after you reset and update the controller, a hardware issue becomes more likely, although those checks cannot diagnose an individual controller with certainty. Joystick resistive tracks can wear over time. iFixit describes replacing the joystick as the remedy for worn tracks and notes that replacing a stick in a standard DualSense is a difficult repair that requires soldering. Its guidance is independent repair information, not an official diagnosis from Sony.
If you lack suitable soldering experience, consider PlayStation Repairs or a qualified repair provider. Check service or warranty eligibility before opening the controller. iFixit’s DualSense repair information can help explain the repair involved.
