Campaign 4 begins a new story in Aramán rather than Exandria, and Critical Role presents it as accessible to people discovering the show for the first time. Use the official Campaign Four page to watch episodes in order and find recaps and lore when you need a refresher.
Do you need to watch the earlier Critical Role campaigns?
No. Campaign 4 is a new story in Aramán, separate from the earlier campaigns’ setting of Exandria. Its official premise follows Thjazi Fang and people from his life who come together after he is marked for execution. Critical Role describes the campaign as a place newcomers can start, and does not state that any previous campaign is required. Read the official Campaign Four introduction.
Where should you start?
Start at Campaign 4, Episode 1, then follow the official episode index in order. The Campaign Four page is the best home base: it links episodes and provides recaps, lore resources, character information, and extra videos. Full episodes are the way to follow the campaign itself; recaps and lore are useful for refreshing details, but are not presented as a complete abridged substitute for every episode.
Where can you watch or listen?
Critical Role’s viewing FAQ lists Beacon, Twitch, and YouTube as viewing options. Beacon is an earlier-access option, not a requirement; Twitch and YouTube are also official routes. The FAQ contains general channel and schedule information, so check the current Campaign Four page for episode-specific availability.
#1 Best Overall
- First major D&D adventure book within Critical Role’s world of Exandria, taking players from levels 3–12
- Multi-continental story that spans the scarred Wastes of Xhorhas, introduces the continent of Marquet, and eventually plunges players into the Netherdeep—a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean
- Bursting with lore and all new art depicting Exandria
- Includes a poster map of Ank’Harel
- Adds magic items, creatures, and introduces rival NPCs
| Option | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Beacon | The Campaign Four introduction says members receive VOD access at 7 p.m. Pacific on release day. |
| Twitch | An official viewing option listed in Critical Role’s viewing FAQ. |
| YouTube | An official viewing option; the Campaign Four introduction says YouTube VOD follows on Monday at noon Pacific. |
| Podcast | An audio alternative released in two parts after the episode premiere, according to the Campaign Four introduction. It is not a faster complete catch-up route, and timing can vary. |
As of October 4, 2026, Critical Role’s schedule said Episode 37 had aired on Thursday, October 1, with its YouTube VOD scheduled for Monday, October 5 at noon Pacific. That is a dated schedule, not a permanent release rule; check the schedule for the week of September 28, 2026 and the live campaign page for the latest episode and timing.
How to choose a catch-up pace
- Want the full campaign? Follow the episodes from Episode 1 in order. This preserves scenes and table moments that short written refreshers may not cover.
- Need to remember a plot or setting detail? Use the official recaps and lore resources alongside the episode index rather than trying to replace the episodes with them.
- Prefer audio? The podcast offers an audio route in two parts after the premiere; check current episode details because release timing can vary.
- Want the earliest VOD access? Compare Beacon’s same-day VOD access with later YouTube availability. You do not need membership simply to follow the campaign.
Do you need to buy anything?
No purchase is required to catch up. Campaign Four uses the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons rules, according to Critical Role’s Campaign Four introduction; the 2024 Player’s Handbook is only an optional reference if you want to look up mechanics. You can follow the story without buying it.
