How to Change a Live Stream’s Thumbnail and Title in Gyre

Set a title and thumbnail in Gyre when creating an authorized YouTube broadcast. For later edits, use the right Gyre or YouTube Studio workflow for the stream type.

For a YouTube stream created through Gyre’s channel-authorization workflow, set its title and thumbnail in Gyre when you create the broadcast. Gyre says you can edit the title later in Gyre; its documentation does not establish a universal way to replace the thumbnail on every stream that is already live. If you manage the broadcast in YouTube Studio instead, use the editing route for its stream type: encoder or mobile, webcam, or an archived replay.

Change the title or thumbnail in Gyre

Gyre’s documented channel-authorization workflow lets you create a broadcast on a connected YouTube channel and pass its title, description, tags, and thumbnail as stream parameters. Channel authorization is not the only way to create a stream: Gyre also describes manual stream creation for advanced YouTube Studio configurations.

  1. In Gyre, select YouTube and authorize the channel if you are using the channel-authorization workflow.
  2. When creating the broadcast, enter its title and other details, and set the thumbnail in the stream parameters.
  3. For an existing broadcast, open its editing controls in Gyre to change the title. Gyre says the title can be edited later.

Gyre’s documentation does not confirm that every existing or live broadcast offers a thumbnail-replacement control. Check the stream’s current edit screen before relying on it to replace a thumbnail after creation; do not assume that a title-edit option also guarantees thumbnail editing.

Edit a YouTube stream in Studio

The right route depends on how the stream was created. YouTube’s instructions distinguish encoder or mobile streams from webcam streams, so do not treat their controls as interchangeable.

Encoder or mobile stream

YouTube Help says you can edit stream metadata during setup, while scheduling, or by clicking Edit from the stream settings page. These instructions apply to encoder or mobile streams. Open the relevant stream settings in YouTube Studio and use Edit to review the available metadata controls.

Webcam stream

For a webcam broadcast, YouTube’s guide directs you to Edit in the Live Control Room to manage settings. YouTube says these settings can be changed while the stream is live or not live. Its setup guide says the camera takes a thumbnail; that does not establish that every active webcam stream supports replacing that image with a custom upload.

Archived live video

To edit details on a published replay, rather than an active broadcast, YouTube Studio’s computer instructions are: open Content, click the video’s title or thumbnail, change its settings, then save. This is the general video-details editor, not proof that the same controls are available for every live stream.

What to check if the thumbnail option is missing

  • Confirm whether the broadcast is active or archived. The replay’s video-details editor is separate from live-stream settings.
  • Identify the stream type. Encoder/mobile and webcam streams have different documented editing routes.
  • Check where the broadcast is managed. For Gyre’s authorized-channel workflow, use the Gyre stream’s edit controls; for a stream managed in Studio, use its corresponding Studio route.
  • Verify the available controls before publishing. The cited guidance does not establish a universal custom-thumbnail replacement process or say how quickly a changed image will appear.
