Change one setting at a time and test it on a familiar stretch of road; the right response depends on your controller or wheel, and there is no universally supported best value.
Open the steering controls
- Pause the game and open Settings.
- Select Advanced Controls.
- Find the steering controls available for your input device, note their current values, and make a small adjustment.
- Drive in a repeatable situation and compare the response before changing another control.
On a Thrustmaster T80 playing on PC, the manufacturer reference gives the path as Options > Settings > Advanced Controls. Menu labels and prompts can differ by platform or device, so follow the equivalent controls shown in your game. Thrustmaster T80 support
Choose a setting based on what feels wrong

| Steering linearity | How steering input is mapped across the axis. | For the Thrustmaster T80 on PC, the manufacturer guidance recommends reducing this slider. This is specific to that wheel, not a general recommendation. |
Make only one change between test drives. If steering feels too sharp around center, compare a small deadzone or linearity adjustment. If the problem is maximum steering angle or steering behavior at speed, check whether your wheel has the relevant wheel-specific options.
Wheel options on Xbox
Forza’s update notes document three additional settings for wheel users on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Steering Rotation, Steering Lock Multiplier, and Steering Speed Sensitivity. Availability on other platforms or devices is not established by those notes. Forza Horizon 5 release notes

- Steering Rotation changes the range of steering degrees on the wheel without changing steering lock.
- Steering Lock Multiplier affects maximum steering angle; a lower multiplier means a lower maximum angle.
- Steering Speed Sensitivity affects steering lock at high speed. Forza lists 1.0 as the default at which steering lock does not change with speed in this update’s description.
These controls address different issues from a center deadzone: rotation concerns wheel range, lock multiplier concerns maximum angle, and speed sensitivity concerns steering lock at speed. Adjust the one that matches the behavior you want to change.
Check platform and device context
The T80 guidance is for that wheel on PC, while Forza’s release notes scope the rotation and lock options above to wheel users on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Confirm what controls appear for your own setup rather than assuming every platform exposes identical options. For general Xbox accessibility information, Forza also describes controller remapping and adjustable game settings, but that overview is not a detailed current menu guide. Xbox accessibility overview

A compatible racing wheel is not required to change the in-game steering controls. If you use a wheel, check its compatibility with your platform separately.

- Pick a familiar route and driving situation so the comparison is consistent.
- Identify the symptom: unwanted movement near center, insufficient or excessive range at full lock, or steering lock that changes at speed.
- Change the one control most closely related to that symptom by a small amount.
- Repeat the same driving situation, then keep the adjustment only if it improves control on your device.
