StreamVoodoo’s official FAQ says 720p is the default, suggests 3–4 Mbps as a standard bitrate and 6 Mbps or higher for broadcasting, and allows changes at any time. It does not document a separate 24/7 quality mode or say whether your choices persist after a reconnect or room restart.
Change your StreamVoodoo video quality
- Open the StreamVoodoo room. Join the room whose video feed you want to adjust.
- Open Settings. Click the Settings icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Adjust resolution and bitrate. These are separate controls: choose the resolution you want, then set the bitrate for your own feed. StreamVoodoo identifies 720p as the default and 1080p as full HD.
- Check the result during the session. StreamVoodoo says the setting can be changed at any time. If the feed becomes unstable, lower the setting and assess it again.
These controls apply to your own feed, not everyone in the room. Each participant can change their own quality. StreamVoodoo’s official WebApp FAQ says: “Each participant in a room can instantly change their own quality settings by clicking the "Settings" icon on the bottom left of the screen.” If you are hosting or operating Voodoo Switcher, the FAQ also describes controls for individual participants there; that is separate from changing your own feed. Choose a resolution and bitrate that your setup can sustain
Resolution describes the dimensions of the video image; bitrate describes how much data is used to carry it. Raising resolution does not automatically set an appropriate bitrate, so check both controls rather than assuming one configures the other.

These figures are StreamVoodoo-published settings and limits, not independent performance measurements. A stated maximum is not a promise that every participant’s hardware or network can use it reliably. For high settings, StreamVoodoo specifically says Ethernet is required; a wired connection may help meet that requirement, but it cannot guarantee a stable feed.

Choose a codec with compatibility and device load in mind
- VP8: StreamVoodoo calls this its standard format and says it is supported by every major browser.
- H.264: StreamVoodoo describes it as useful for mobile devices or devices that cannot handle VP8 or VP9.
- VP9: StreamVoodoo describes it as a high-quality option that may not work for every participant. Its FAQ says Chrome with VP9 usually reaches the highest quality available through StreamVoodoo.
- AV1: StreamVoodoo describes it as high quality and lower bandwidth than VP8 or VP9, but says it requires a powerful computer.
Compatibility is part of the choice: a codec or quality setting that works for one participant may not work for another. For a multi-person room, consider the least capable participant’s device and connection rather than choosing only for the host’s setup.
For a 24/7 YouTube broadcast, keep StreamVoodoo and YouTube settings separate
Changing StreamVoodoo’s participant-feed quality does not set YouTube’s live ingest configuration. If the room is part of a YouTube broadcast, configure the downstream encoder for the resolution, frame rate, and codec used in that broadcast. YouTube’s official guidance says to use a reliable quality for the available connection, test before going live, and monitor stream health. Its bitrate recommendations depend on ingest codec, resolution, and frame rate; they are not substitutes for StreamVoodoo’s participant-feed bitrate suggestions. For any continuous broadcast, test the entire path before relying on it: the participant feed, room or production workflow, encoder, network connection, and YouTube stream. StreamVoodoo’s FAQ does not say whether participant quality settings survive reconnects, room restarts, or a long-running session, so check the setting again after any interruption rather than assuming it persisted.
Troubleshoot a poor or unstable feed
- The feed stutters or drops at a higher setting: Lower the bitrate or resolution and check whether the connection has enough capacity. StreamVoodoo’s 6 Mbps-or-higher broadcasting suggestion and stated upper limits are not guarantees of what your network can sustain.
- A participant cannot use the selected codec: Switch to a format their browser or device supports. StreamVoodoo identifies VP8 as its standard format and says it is supported by every major browser; its FAQ notes that VP9 may not work for every participant.
- The computer struggles with AV1 or high settings: Try a less demanding compatible codec or reduce the quality. StreamVoodoo says AV1 requires a powerful computer.
- YouTube reports an unhealthy stream: Check the downstream encoder’s ingest configuration and connection separately from the StreamVoodoo room settings. Test before going live and monitor YouTube’s stream health using its current encoder guidance.
- Quality changes after a reconnect or restart: The StreamVoodoo FAQ does not document whether settings persist in those circumstances. Reopen Settings and verify your resolution and bitrate.
