Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo change the video in a running 24/7 YouTube kirtan stream, switch the media your encoder sends—usually by changing OBS scenes or using an OBS VLC playlist. Keep OBS connected and streaming, and do not click YouTube’s End Stream for an ordinary content change. This keeps the broadcast session running, but YouTube and OBS do not promise a gap-free picture or audio transition.
What changes—and what stays live
The video and audio reaching YouTube come from your encoder. In an OBS setup, OBS sends its current scene output; changing scenes changes that output without deliberately stopping the encoder connection. YouTube Studio does not document a universal control for replacing media inside every third-party encoder.
YouTube distinguishes the incoming stream from the broadcast viewers watch. Google’s Live Streaming API describes a broadcast as “a distinct YouTube video” and a stream as the resource that transmits audio and video. Its documented continuous-feed example keeps a long-running broadcast live while another broadcast goes live and completes on the same stream. See Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
For a normal switch between kirtan recordings or visuals, change what OBS sends. Do not stop OBS’s stream or end the YouTube event as part of that switch. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe ending a stream as stopping content from the encoder; scheduled streams also have an End Stream control. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Before switching a live kirtan stream
- Prepare the incoming media. Confirm the intended video and audio files are available to OBS and that the replacement scene or playlist is ready.
- Check the audio path. A scene can show the right visual while its audio source is muted, missing, or different from the one you intended. Watch the OBS audio mixer during a rehearsal.
- Keep the active output in view. A preview is not the same as the live Program output when Studio Mode is on. Confirm the scene is on Program before assuming viewers see it.
- Clear rights for every asset. Make sure you have permission to livestream and archive the kirtan recording, performance, and visuals. Technical setup does not grant rights to music or video.
Method 1: Switch between prepared OBS scenes
Use scenes when you want to choose the next video manually—for example, to move from one kirtan recording to another at a planned moment. OBS scenes are arrangements of sources, and media files can be added as sources. The OBS Sources Guide explains adding sources and controlling their visibility.
- Create a scene for each video or content block. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene, then add the relevant media source to it. Give scenes clear names so you can identify the next item while operating live.
- Set and check the media source. Add the intended file, confirm its picture appears, and verify the audio source and mixer level. Repeat for each scene you plan to use.
- Rehearse the transition. Use OBS Studio Mode if you want to prepare a scene in Preview before sending it to Program. OBS provides Cut and Fade transitions, with a configurable transition duration; the OBS Studio Overview Guide describes Studio Mode, transitions, and scene hotkeys.
- Keep streaming, then switch the scene. While OBS remains connected to YouTube, select the prepared scene or use a configured scene hotkey. If using Studio Mode, transition the Preview scene to Program.
- Verify the live result. Check the Program output and audio mixer immediately after the change. If the wrong scene or silent audio appears, switch back to the known-good scene while you correct the replacement.
OBS recommends testing scenes and settings before streaming. A rehearsed transition is especially useful for an audio-led kirtan stream, where an unexpected mute or change in sound may matter more than the visual switch. Neither the OBS documentation nor YouTube’s instructions guarantee that a switch will be free of every dropped frame, buffering pause, or audio gap.

Method 2: Play a prepared rotation with an OBS VLC playlist
If you want files to play in sequence or loop without selecting a new scene for each item, add a VLC Video source to an OBS scene and configure its playlist. The OBS Media Sources guide documents playlist ordering, loop and shuffle settings, visibility behavior, and audio track selection.
- Install VLC before setting up the source. OBS requires VLC for a VLC Video source. OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene. In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the local recordings you want in the playlist.
- Set the sequence and playback options. Arrange the playlist in the intended order. Loop Playlist is on by default and Shuffle Playlist is off by default, according to the OBS guide; adjust these settings to suit the rotation.
- Check visibility and audio tracks. Confirm the source remains visible in the active scene and that the selected audio track is the one you intend to send.
- Test the full rotation before relying on it live. Let files advance, check the transition and audio, and confirm the playlist loops if that is the plan.
The OBS documentation does not establish a safe live playlist-edit procedure for every OBS version. Prepare and test playlist changes before relying on an edit during an active broadcast.

Which switching method fits?
| Method | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Prepared OBS scenes | Occasional, operator-chosen changes | Preview versus Program, audio on each scene, and the transition you rehearse |
| OBS VLC playlist | A prepared ordered, shuffled, or looping rotation of local recordings | VLC installation, playlist order, loop and shuffle settings, source visibility, and audio track |
Both methods depend on the running OBS setup and local media. Neither should be treated as a guarantee of a zero-gap transition; test your actual files and setup before relying on it for a long live session.

YouTube currently says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise that a stream longer than that will be archived as one complete replay. A 24/7 operator should therefore plan separate recording or archive needs rather than assume the full continuous broadcast will be available as a VOD. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Troubleshooting a switch
The new video is not visible to viewers
- In Studio Mode, check whether the new scene is still only in Preview; transition it to Program.
- Check that the intended scene is selected and that its media source is visible.
- If the source or scene was not prepared, switch back to the working scene before making changes.
The picture changes but the kirtan audio is silent or wrong
- Check the OBS audio mixer for the active source and confirm it is not muted.
- Check the audio source or VLC playlist track selection for the new media.
- Test the complete scene or playlist outside the live change before relying on it again.
A VLC playlist does not play or advance
- Confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS architecture; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- Check that the media files are available locally and that they are present in the playlist.
- Confirm the VLC source is visible in the active scene, then test playlist order and loop settings.
The viewer sees a pause or brief interruption
A scene or media change is not documented as a guaranteed gap-free transition. Rehearse the actual content and transition, and avoid presenting uninterrupted playback as guaranteed. If the encoder has stopped sending, follow YouTube’s encoder reconnection workflow rather than treating an ordinary scene change as an ended broadcast; do not click End Stream unless you intend to end the event.
Live-stream eligibility and operating checks
YouTube eligibility and live-stream limits can depend on the account and streaming method. Check the current YouTube live-streaming requirements for the channel before setting up a continuous broadcast. Keep the stream key private, and use the key and server URL in the encoder as YouTube instructs. A stream key is not permission to use copyrighted music or imagery.
