Change your character to R15

Sign in to Roblox on the website and open the Edit Avatar page.

Look for the character rig or R6/R15 choice and select R15 if it appears.

Enter an experience that allows your selected rig to check the result.

Roblox’s current Creator Hub reference identifies the website’s Edit Avatar page as the place for the player’s R6/R15 setting. It does not document a current step-by-step consumer walkthrough for every client, so the exact labels and controls may vary. If you do not see an R15 choice, use Roblox’s website avatar editor rather than assuming a mobile, console, or in-game control is available.
Why your avatar may still appear as R6
An experience can be configured to use R6, R15, or PlayerChoice. PlayerChoice uses the rig selected in your website character settings; an experience explicitly set to R6 or R15 uses its own rig choice instead. See Roblox’s GameAvatarType reference.

- R6: The legacy six-part character rig.
- R15: A rig made up of 15 body parts, with articulated joints. Roblox describes its structure in the Character bodies documentation.
- PlayerChoice: The experience follows the rig selected in your website character settings.
If the character stays R6 or looks different in one game, try another experience or check that game’s avatar guidance. A different body shape or avatar package is not the same thing as changing the rig type.
Player setting versus creator setting
The Edit Avatar choice is for your character preference. Roblox Studio’s Avatar Settings are different: creators use them to configure which rigs an experience supports. The creator options include R6, R15, and R15 & R6; Player Choice loads player avatars without modification. Details are in Roblox’s Avatar Settings documentation.

Creators of R6 experiences can also use Roblox’s R6-to-R15 adapter, a Studio feature rather than a player-side toggle. Roblox notes that it can conflict with custom avatar editors or scripts that assume R6 body parts.

R15’s 15-part structure allows more articulation than R6. Roblox CTO Daniel Sturman wrote in October 2023 that the R15 tech stack supports blocky, humanoid, and fantasy avatar styles and experiences built for all avatars. That broader capability does not mean every experience accepts or displays every avatar the same way; the experience’s rig configuration still matters. See How Roblox Avatar Tech Is Evolving.
