To check FPS in Roblox on Windows 11, join an experience, press Esc, open Settings, and turn Performance Stats on. Return to the game and look for the FPS or frame-rate value in the on-screen stats bar. For a quicker alternative, press Shift+F5 to show Roblox’s client debug statistics.
Turn on Roblox Performance Stats
- Open Roblox on your Windows 11 PC and join an experience. You need to be in a game, not just on the Roblox home screen.
- Press Esc, or click the Roblox icon in the upper-left corner, to open the in-game menu.
- Select Settings.
- Find Performance Stats and set it to On.
- Press Esc again or select Resume to return to the experience.
- Look for the statistics bar over the game and read the value labeled FPS or Frame Rate.
The exact wording and placement can shift as Roblox updates its client. If you do not see the counter immediately, check the in-game Settings tab and look for the performance-statistics control. Roblox describes this overlay as a way to view performance while testing on the client (Roblox: Test on hardware).
Use the Shift+F5 shortcut
While inside an experience, press Shift+F5 to display Roblox’s client debug statistics summary, which includes frame-rate information. Press it again if you want to cycle or hide the display; if it does not respond, use the Performance Stats setting instead. Roblox documents Shift+F5 as a shortcut for the client debug stats, rather than as a separate dedicated FPS-counter feature (Roblox: Identify performance issues).

What the FPS number tells you
FPS means frames per second: the number of rendered images the client displays each second. More FPS can make movement and camera turns feel smoother, but it is a rendering measurement—not a measure of your internet connection.

Roblox’s performance documentation describes a default target of 60 FPS (about one frame every 16.67 milliseconds). Actual results depend on the computer and the experience. Scripts, physics, lighting, particles, and the number of players can all change the rendering workload. A steady 60 FPS may feel better than a higher rate that repeatedly drops, because consistency matters as well as the peak number. FPS is also distinct from ping or latency, which describes the delay in communication with the game server. Roblox’s stats view may show other information, such as ping and memory, depending on the view and client version.

These clues are not definitive: more than one cause can produce similar symptoms. Roblox treats client frame rate and network ping as separate measurements in its performance diagnostics guidance.
FPS cap is not the same as actual FPS
A frame-rate cap is a ceiling, not a promise. Roblox documentation says Windows users can raise the cap as high as 240 FPS, but that does not mean every PC or experience can render at 240 FPS. If a demanding scene runs at 45 FPS, raising the cap will not make the computer produce 240 frames per second. Conversely, if the client is capped at 60 FPS, a more powerful PC may still show about 60.

A high-refresh-rate monitor does not automatically raise Roblox’s frame rate, either. The monitor refresh rate, the client’s cap, and the computer’s rendering performance all matter. A counter can show more FPS than a display’s refresh rate, but the display cannot show each additional frame as a separate refresh in the same way a faster panel can.
Compare FPS while changing graphics quality
If you want to see whether graphics settings are affecting performance, compare readings in the same place and activity:

- Press Esc or click the Roblox icon, then open Settings.
- Set Graphics Mode to Manual.
- Move the Graphics Quality slider left for lower visual quality or right for higher quality.
- Resume the game, wait several seconds in the same scene, and compare the FPS reading.
Roblox’s support instructions describe these in-game graphics controls (Roblox: Graphics Quality). Comparing the same scene makes the result more useful because different areas and activities can place very different demands on the client.
If FPS is low
Try these checks in order, changing one thing at a time so you can see whether it helps:

- Lower Graphics Quality using the manual slider above.
- Close unnecessary applications and browser tabs that may be using system resources.
- If you are on a laptop, connect it to power and use the manufacturer’s performance mode if available.
- On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, check that Roblox is using the intended GPU.
- Install current graphics drivers from your GPU manufacturer.
- Try another Roblox experience. If only one performs poorly, its workload may be the main difference.
- If performance falls after the PC has been running a demanding game for a while, check for overheating or sustained clock-speed reduction.
- Restart Roblox and, if needed, Windows before trying more involved fixes.
None of these steps guarantees a particular FPS increase. They help narrow down whether the limit is graphics load, background activity, power settings, drivers, heat, or one experience.
If the FPS counter does not appear
- Confirm you have joined an experience; the in-game stats controls are not the same as website settings.
- Open the in-game menu with Esc and check Settings → Performance Stats.
- Try Shift+F5 while the game window is active.
- Test another experience to see whether the issue is specific to one game.
- Fully exit Roblox, including any instance still running in the system tray, then relaunch it.
- If using a separate GPU overlay, temporarily disable other overlays that may conflict, and update the graphics driver if necessary.
If a GPU overlay shows N/A, that alone does not mean your PC cannot render the game; overlay compatibility can fail independently. AMD, for example, documents cases where its performance overlay reports N/A in some configurations (AMD release notes). You do not need to reinstall Roblox as a first step.
Other ways to monitor FPS
For a basic live reading, Roblox’s own Performance Stats is usually the simplest option and requires no extra download. If you need more detail, hardware tools can help, but they are fallbacks rather than requirements:
- Xbox Game Bar: Windows 11 includes Game Bar, which has a Performance widget with an FPS metric. Its exact interface and availability may vary; if Windows prompts you for permission, follow the prompt and restart if requested. This is not guaranteed to work in every Roblox installation.
- NVIDIA FrameView: NVIDIA’s tool can show average FPS and 1% low FPS, among other metrics. The 1% low can reveal stutter that an average hides, but FrameView is more involved than Roblox’s counter. See the official FrameView page and user guide.
- AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition: On compatible Radeon systems, enable the Performance Metrics Overlay from the performance or metrics area. Its default toggle is Ctrl+Shift+O, unless changed. Depending on controls and version, its metrics can include frame rate, frame time, 99th-percentile FPS, stutter rate, and hardware utilization or temperatures. See AMD’s overlay instructions.
If you are checking the performance ordinary players experience, measure in Roblox Player rather than relying only on Studio. Roblox notes that Studio readings can be skewed by the development application, so the client is more representative for a player (Roblox performance identification guide).
Turn the stats display off
To hide the built-in overlay, return to the in-game menu and set Settings → Performance Stats → Off. If you used Shift+F5 for debug statistics, press the shortcut again or use the Settings control. Avoid downloading unofficial FPS boosters or client unlockers just to see a frame-rate number; Roblox’s built-in tools are sufficient for this task.
