In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live, select your live stream or scheduled stream, then choose Edit > Monetization. Confirm that Monetization is set to On. That verifies the stream-level setting—not that every viewer will see an ad. Your channel must also be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), the required Watch Page Monetization Module must be accepted, and the content and viewing format must qualify.
Check the live stream’s monetization setting
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create, then Go live.
- Open the Stream tab to start a stream, or select the scheduled stream from Manage.
- Choose Edit, then Monetization.
- Check that Monetization is set to On.
YouTube documents these Live Control Room controls for live streams generally; it does not specify a separate eligibility switch for 24/7 streams. Menu labels may change, so consult YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance if your Studio layout differs.
Check channel eligibility and monetization terms
The stream’s On setting is only one part of eligibility. YouTube says a creator must be in YPP to choose ad monetization. To earn Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue from live streams, the creator must also accept the Watch Page Monetization Module in Studio’s Earn section. Check the channel’s status there if the stream control is unavailable or being On does not result in monetization. See YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program overview and monetization modules guidance.
What “eligible for ads” means
For a 24/7 stream, check each of these separately. An On setting does not override a channel, agreement, content, format, or playback limitation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Channel: The channel is in YPP and can monetize.
- Agreement: The Watch Page Monetization Module is accepted for Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue.
- Stream: Monetization is On in that stream’s Live Control Room settings.
- Content: The stream meets advertiser-friendly requirements and is not restricted in a way that makes it ineligible.
- Format and playback context: The live format and viewing context support the ad type in question.
- Ad delivery: YouTube actually serves an ad to a particular viewer. This is not guaranteed even when the other checks pass.
YouTube Help states, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Viewers can receive ads at different times, or no ad at all. A viewer who does not receive an ad continues watching; one who skips or finishes an ad rejoins the stream. An enabled 24/7 stream therefore should not be treated as continuously showing ads.
Choose how live mid-roll ads are handled
When monetization is enabled, YouTube automatically turns on pre-roll and display ads. Mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled, or manually inserted. Inspect the live ad options in the stream’s Monetization settings; YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls, but no option guarantees impressions or earnings.

| Mid-roll setting | How it works | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | YouTube places mid-rolls at natural breakpoints. The creator can choose a frequency level. | Requires less moment-to-moment intervention. YouTube describes measures intended to reduce interruptions for channel members, some viewers interacting with gifts or Super Chat and Stickers, and during high-engagement moments. |
| Scheduled | Choose a break interval of 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. | Sets a regular cadence; YouTube says scheduled settings may have lower earnings potential than automatic mode. |
| Manual | Insert ad breaks while live. | Requires active intervention. If you insert no break, no mid-roll ads are served. |
You can defer automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes with Delay ads in Live Control Room; a countdown appears before ads resume. YouTube cautions that manually placed mid-rolls still display while Delay ads is on. See YouTube’s live ad settings guidance.
Check content, format, and playback restrictions
Advertiser-friendly content and age restrictions
Content monetized with ads must comply with YouTube’s advertiser-friendly content guidelines. YouTube says a video that is not suitable for all audiences could be age restricted and ineligible for monetization; content that does not meet advertiser-friendly guidelines may receive limited or no ads. Its monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other video formats. An On setting does not override these decisions or rights requirements. Review the advertiser-friendly content guidelines and YouTube channel monetization policies.

Horizontal versus vertical live
YouTube’s live-format comparison lists live pre-roll and mid-roll ads as supported for horizontal live streams, but not for vertical live feeds. If you are checking a vertical live feed and those ad types are unavailable, that is a documented format limitation, not necessarily a Studio error. See YouTube’s live-stream format comparison.
External embeds with autoplay
If the live player is embedded on an external site with autoplay, YouTube says ads are turned off for that live stream. This qualification applies to the stated autoplay case; it does not establish that ads will appear in every other embed context. Details are in YouTube’s live monetization guidance.

Why ads may not appear on a 24/7 stream
- Monetization is Off for that stream: Return to Create > Go live > select the stream > Edit > Monetization and check the setting.
- The channel is not eligible or the module is not accepted: Check YPP status and the Watch Page Monetization Module in Studio’s Earn section.
- The content is unsuitable or age restricted: Review the stream’s content and its monetization status against YouTube’s policies.
- The stream is vertical: Live pre-roll and mid-roll ads are not supported for vertical live feeds according to YouTube’s format comparison.
- The stream is autoplaying in an external embed: YouTube turns ads off in this stated case.
- No ad was served to a particular viewer: Ad slots are not guaranteed; a lack of an ad for one viewer does not by itself prove the stream setting is Off.
- No manual mid-roll was inserted: In manual mode, no inserted break means no mid-roll is served. Choose a different mid-roll approach or insert breaks while live.
What YouTube’s automatic mid-roll figure does—and does not—show
In January 2024, YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour among creators who turned on live automatic mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, across 207 countries. This is YouTube’s platform-reported comparison, not a guaranteed result, an individual-channel forecast, or proof of what a particular 24/7 stream will earn. YouTube also says scheduled or manual settings may have lower earnings potential than automatic mode; neither statement promises a specific outcome. See YouTube’s January 2024 automatic mid-roll update.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 24/7 stream uses uploaded videos rather than a live camera, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. This changes how the stream is kept online, not YouTube’s YPP, policy, or ad-delivery requirements. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
