Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteOpen the stream’s YouTube watch page and check whether it is playing at the live point—not merely listed as upcoming or available as a replay. If playback seems behind, resume it or reopen the page; pausing or rewinding can leave you watching earlier footage while the broadcast continues.
Check the stream on YouTube
- Find it in YouTube’s Live area. On a computer, go to YouTube.com and select Live. In the Android app, open Live from the app navigation.
- Open the stream itself. Check the watch page and its current playback. A scheduled or upcoming listing is not proof that the broadcast has started. YouTube describes live streams as media broadcast in real time.
- Check whether playback is caught up. If the video appears frozen or the scene seems old, resume playback or reopen the watch page. YouTube’s DVR feature can let viewers pause and rewind during an active stream, leaving them behind the live point.
YouTube’s guidance on DVR on live streams explains the pause-and-rewind behavior.
Tell a live broadcast from an upcoming listing or replay
- Upcoming: A scheduled stream can appear in YouTube’s Live area before it begins. Open the page and check whether the broadcast is actually playing.
- Currently broadcasting: The watch page is playing the live stream. If you paused or rewound, return to the live point before judging what is happening now.
- Ended or replay: A channel may leave a replay or highlights available after a live stream ends. A playable video on the channel, by itself, does not show that the broadcast is still active.
YouTube covers live viewing, chat, and replays in its Learn about live streams guidance. The status of a particular relaxation stream can change at any time, so confirm it on that stream’s watch page.
Use Live Chat only as a clue
If Live Chat is enabled and available to you, recent messages can support the impression that viewers are interacting in the moment. Chat is not a requirement for a live broadcast: it may be disabled, restricted, or unavailable in an embedded player. YouTube says Live Chat is available on watch pages, not embedded players. No chat—or no messages you can see—does not prove that the stream has ended.
