Check the operating system, CPU, graphics card, memory, storage, and any stated graphics-feature requirements; then revisit the listing near release, since requirements for an upcoming game can change.
Find the game’s current PC requirements
Start with the publisher’s official page or the store listing for the PC version. On Steam, open the game’s Store page and find System Requirements. Record the minimum and recommended operating system, processor, graphics card, RAM, storage, and any listed graphics API or feature requirements. Steam explains where to find those specifications in its platform and system requirements guidance.
Because the game is not yet released, check the listing again closer to launch. Its requirements may be added or revised, so an old announcement or third-party summary may not reflect the current specification.
Find your PC’s hardware details
On Windows, use the built-in DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DxDiag) to identify your processor, memory, graphics device, and driver details. Steam’s driver guidance and Rockstar’s PC compatibility instructions both describe DxDiag as a way to check hardware information.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
dxdiagand press Enter. If asked whether to check for digitally signed drivers, choose the option to proceed. - On the System tab, note your Windows version, processor, and memory.
- On the Display tab, note the graphics-device name and driver details. If your PC has more than one display device or graphics adapter, check the relevant tabs and identify which GPU the game is likely to use.
DxDiag helps you identify the parts to compare; it does not decide whether a particular game will run well. For storage, check the free space on the drive where you plan to install the game.
Compare requirements one category at a time
Compare the exact models and capabilities, not just broad labels such as “Intel processor” or “NVIDIA graphics.” Check each category separately:

- Operating system and architecture: Confirm that the game supports your Windows version and whether it requires a 64-bit operating system.
- CPU: Compare your processor model with the listed minimum and recommended processors.
- GPU: Compare the actual graphics-card model and any stated feature or graphics API requirements. Include integrated graphics in the comparison if that is what your PC uses.
- RAM: Check installed system memory against the listed amount.
- Storage: Confirm the required space and that your intended installation drive has enough free capacity.
- Drivers and other constraints: Note any stated driver version, graphics API, or hardware feature requirement.
Do not use the DirectX version installed in Windows as a substitute for checking GPU capabilities. Steam warns that having a current DirectX installation does not establish that older graphics hardware supports the shader features a game requires; see its DirectX and pixel shader guidance.
Understand what minimum and recommended mean
Minimum requirements
Minimum specifications are a baseline, not a promise of high frame rates, high visual settings, or an issue-free experience. Epic Games support guidance says a PC that only meets a game’s minimum requirements probably will not run it at the highest settings. Steam likewise cautions that meeting listed requirements alone does not guarantee strong performance. See Epic’s system-requirements guidance and Steam’s performance troubleshooting advice.

Recommended requirements
Recommended specifications are a more useful comparison if you want a particular level of visual quality or performance, but they are not a universal frame-rate guarantee. Unless the publisher states target settings or performance figures, do not assume that “recommended” means a specific resolution, graphics preset, or number of frames per second.

A borderline match is uncertain. Steam notes that a system at or near a game’s requirements may encounter performance or launch issues; its launch troubleshooting guidance addresses this risk.

- Check the driver version and date shown in DxDiag, then consult your graphics-card vendor’s current driver support if an update may be needed.
- Recheck the game’s official requirements near release in case they have changed.
- After release, look for benchmarks of the same game on CPU and GPU models close to yours. Treat them as additional evidence, not a promise: results can differ with settings, drivers, patches, and the rest of the system.
- If you are choosing between minimum and recommended targets, compare your PC with the tier that best matches your own performance and image-quality goal.
Without the game’s current requirements and your PC’s component details, nobody can give a reliable yes-or-no answer for your particular setup. This checklist lets you make that comparison without mistaking a specification match for a performance guarantee.
