There is no permanent, official list of every eligible game. To check a specific disc, insert it into a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X console with a disc drive and launch the game. If the disc qualifies, follow the console’s prompt to claim or receive its digital entitlement. Microsoft says eligibility can vary and change, so the console’s response to the exact disc is the practical check.
Check a specific disc on your Xbox
- Use a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X console with an optical disc drive. The feature applies to supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X game discs; it does not mean every disc from those generations qualifies. See Microsoft’s digital goods usage rules and the Xbox announcement.
- Insert the physical game disc, then launch the game.
- If the console offers a claim or entitlement prompt, follow it to obtain the digital entitlement. Xbox describes the feature as claiming a digital entitlement from a supported disc in its August 26, 2026 announcement.
- If the console identifies the disc as unsupported, treat that exact disc as ineligible. Microsoft says eligibility can depend on technical, licensing, publishing, or other factors, and titles may be added or removed under its usage rules.
Why a game’s title alone cannot confirm eligibility
Eligibility is disc-specific, not a guarantee attached to a game name, publisher, or generation. Xbox’s announcement says “Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature,” but “most” is a qualitative description, not a published percentage or a promise about a particular copy. Microsoft’s rules explicitly say not all Xbox One and Xbox Series X game discs are eligible. Because eligibility can change, an online list may become outdated; check the physical disc on the console instead.
Keep the qualifying disc
The digital entitlement is conditional on continued possession of the qualifying disc. Microsoft may revalidate eligibility and may suspend or revoke the license if you no longer possess that disc, according to its digital goods usage rules. Do not treat the claim as a way to turn a disc into a permanent, disc-independent license.
How this differs from backward-compatible disc play
This disc-to-digital feature is separate from Xbox backward compatibility. Microsoft’s instructions for playing backward-compatible games on Xbox One cover selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox games; for a backward-compatible game installed from a disc, the disc still has to be in the drive. The new feature’s reviewed rules cover supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs and do not establish Xbox 360 or original Xbox discs as eligible.

What the digital entitlement may include
The entitlement follows the basis used for Xbox One and Xbox Series digital games, subject to the individual game and applicable licensing rules. Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming benefits may be available when the particular game supports them; claiming a disc does not mean every title works across PC, handheld devices, or cloud gaming. Xbox describes those benefits as title-dependent in its announcement.
