Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can’t reliably clear a song for a YouTube livestream by scanning it in advance or waiting to see whether YouTube detects it. Before going live, confirm that you own the music, it is public domain, or you have permission that explicitly covers YouTube livestreaming, the territories where it will be available, and any archived replay. For licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
How to check a song before you go live
Use this checklist for the exact recording you plan to play. A song may involve separate rights in its sound recording and its musical composition, so a track title, purchase receipt, or description credit alone does not establish that you have permission for both.
- Identify the recording and rights holders. Note the exact track and version, including whether it is a cover, remix, sample, or specific commercial recording. Determine who controls the recording and composition rights relevant to your use.
- Read the permission or license for livestream use. Check that it expressly covers YouTube live broadcasts, the territories in which your stream will be available, and whether you may keep or monetize an archived replay. Keep the license and permission records.
- Confirm Content ID handling. If a third party licensed the music to you, ask that rights owner to add your YouTube channel to its Content ID allowlist before the broadcast. A paid subscription, receipt, or license certificate does not necessarily mean YouTube has been told that your channel is cleared.
- Choose music with terms that fit the format. YouTube recommends its Audio Library and also points to original music and third-party services, whose licenses you must check. Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing tracks are for eligible long-form videos, not livestreams or Shorts; it is not livestream clearance.
- Keep evidence accessible. Save the permission, license terms, relevant correspondence, and any allowlisting confirmation so you can check them if a warning or claim appears.
YouTube describes music as copyright-safe when it is public domain or used with permission from the copyright owner. A track labeled “free” can still be flagged, and crediting the artist in your description does not notify Content ID that you have permission. See YouTube’s tips to find safe music.
What YouTube’s live scan can—and cannot—tell you
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may show a warning and replace the stream image with a placeholder. If the content continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. The scan is enforcement during a broadcast, not advance permission or a complete rights check. An absence of a warning does not prove that you have all the necessary rights.

For third-party music you have licensed, YouTube warns that the stream can still be interrupted if your channel is not on the rights owner’s allowlist—even if you restrict the broadcast to territories where you hold the necessary rights. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Do not confuse this with YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature. YouTube describes that feature for certain Content Manager partners managing copies of content they own, subject to global-rights and exclusive-ownership requirements. It is a rights-holder enforcement tool, not a general creator tool for checking a song before going live. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream Content ID matching guidance.

Music sources: check the terms, not the label
| Music source | What to verify for a livestream |
|---|---|
| Your own original music | Confirm you control or have permission for all relevant recording and composition rights, including any samples, collaborators, or commissioned work. |
| Public-domain music | Verify that the underlying composition is public domain in the territories relevant to your stream. A particular modern recording or arrangement may have separate rights. |
| YouTube Audio Library | Check the track’s stated conditions, including any attribution requirements, and confirm they fit your intended use. |
| Third-party music service | Read the license for YouTube livestreams, territory, archive/VOD, monetization, attribution, rights covered, and what happens when the license expires. Ask about Content ID allowlisting. |
| Creator Music | Do not use its licensed or revenue-sharing tracks as livestream clearance. YouTube says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content; its described track terms are for long-form videos, not live streams or Shorts. |
Creator Music access and eligibility can change. The cited YouTube help page describes access for U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators, with expansion outside the U.S. pending; check the Creator Music FAQ and track usage details for current access and the terms for a particular track. Even if you can access a track, the stated live-content limitation still matters.
What to do if YouTube warns or interrupts your stream
- Respond to the warning immediately. Stop or remove the detected third-party content from the broadcast. YouTube may replace the stream image while the match remains; continued use can lead to interruption or termination.
- Do not assume a license will prevent interruption. If you have permission, contact the rights owner and confirm that your channel has been added to its Content ID allowlist. Keep the confirmation.
- Check the replay after the broadcast, if it was archived. In YouTube Studio, open Content, filter by Claims, find the video, and inspect the Restrictions column. Open the claim details to see the claimant and the content identified.
- Review any available action against your actual rights. Depending on the claim, options may include leaving it in place, removing the claimed content, or disputing it if you are confident you have the necessary rights.
YouTube says Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the stream is complete if you choose to archive it. A claim is an assertion about rights management; it is not the same as a copyright removal request, which can result in a strike. Claimants can differ by segment, and claims or their effects can vary by country or region. YouTube does not mediate copyright disputes, and an invalid dispute may lead to a takedown request and strike. See YouTube’s instructions for understanding copyright claims.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- “The song is free.” A free label does not prove that livestream and archive rights are included. Read the actual terms.
- “I credited the artist.” Attribution may be required by a license, but by itself it does not grant permission or clear a Content ID match.
- “I bought the track.” Owning a copy is not the same as having permission to broadcast the recording and composition on YouTube Live.
- “I have a license, so YouTube can’t interrupt me.” A valid license may still need the rights owner to allowlist your channel. Arrange that before the stream.
- “YouTube didn’t flag it, so it’s cleared.” A scan result does not establish your rights. Confirm permission regardless of whether a match appears.
- “A claim means I definitely infringed.” A claim is not itself a court decision or a strike. Review the claimant, segment, territory, and your license before choosing an action; dispute only when you have a valid rights basis.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your broadcast is a playlist or recording rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. This changes how the video is streamed; it does not clear music rights. Confirm the music is permitted for the live broadcast and any archive before uploading.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs in the cloud.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the upload streamed as made.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
