YouTube handles live transcoding automatically; you do not choose the viewer-facing renditions in YouTube Studio. To check a 4K 60fps broadcast, verify the signal your encoder sends—3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, with a supported codec and the right bitrate—then monitor the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room.

That distinction matters: encoder settings determine the incoming signal, while YouTube transcodes that signal into playback formats for viewers on different devices and network connections. YouTube describes this automatic process in its encoder settings guidance.

What you can check in YouTube Studio

YouTube’s Live Control Room lets you inspect stream setup and health, but it is not a menu for selecting YouTube’s downstream transcoding renditions. YouTube detects resolution and frame rate automatically by default. If you need to select a resolution manually, you must use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution. See YouTube’s Live Control Room instructions.

Check the 4K 60fps stream step by step

  1. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. Select or create an encoder stream, then open Stream settings. Enter the stream key and stream URL shown there in your encoder.
  2. Choose automatic or manual resolution detection. For the usual setup, leave resolution and frame rate detection on automatic. To choose resolution manually, create a custom stream key and, under Stream Resolution, select Turn on manual settings.
  3. Configure the encoder’s video output. Set it to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps. Your encoder must actually send the configured signal; selecting 4K in a menu alone does not verify what reaches YouTube.
  4. Set bitrate for the codec. YouTube’s English encoder table gives codec-specific guidance for 4K/2160p at 60 fps: AV1 and H.265/HEVC have a 10–40 Mbps range, while H.264 has a recommended bitrate of 35 Mbps. Do not treat the H.264 recommendation as a universal target for the other codecs. Make sure your upload connection can sustain the bitrate you select. See the YouTube encoder-settings table.
  5. Set the remaining encoder parameters. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Its guidance also recommends RTMPS for secure transport, progressive scan, square pixels, and AAC or MP3 audio.
  6. Account for latency. YouTube’s low-latency option is unavailable for 4K/2160 streams. They are optimized for quality at normal latency, so do not promise viewers the very low delay that a low-latency mode would imply.
  7. Preview and monitor. Test with representative motion and audio before the broadcast. Preview the stream, then watch stream health and any messages in Live Control Room while live. YouTube recommends checking audio and video quality continuously in its streaming tips.

4K 60fps settings at a glance

Setting What to use or check
Output resolution and frame rate 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps
Supported RTMP/RTMPS video codecs H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1; up to 60 fps
AV1 or H.265/HEVC bitrate 10–40 Mbps at 4K/2160p60
H.264 bitrate 35 Mbps recommended at 4K/2160p60
Rate control and keyframes CBR; two-second keyframe interval recommended, no more than four seconds
Transport and picture format RTMPS recommended; progressive scan and square pixels
Audio AAC or MP3
Latency Low-latency option unavailable for 4K/2160

These figures are YouTube’s English encoder-settings guidance, accessed October 3, 2026; YouTube does not display a publication date on that guidance. Interface labels and technical recommendations can change.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

HDR is a separate production choice

Do not enable HDR just because the stream is 4K. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies H.265 for HDR and says AV1 is not supported for HDR; it calls for 10-bit video for HDR and 8-bit for SDR. If your production is SDR, follow the SDR path rather than adding HDR settings you do not need.

Common problems and what to check

  • The stream is not detected as 4K or 60 fps: Check that the encoder is outputting 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps and that the stream key and URL match the stream in Live Control Room. With automatic detection enabled, YouTube detects the incoming settings. If you need manual resolution selection, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
  • The stream is unstable or reports poor health: Check whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate, then confirm that the encoder uses CBR and a supported codec. Test under conditions representative of the event rather than relying only on a configured preset.
  • Viewers report a longer delay than expected: Low latency is not available for 4K/2160. Set expectations around normal latency for this resolution.
  • Picture or sound problems appear during the broadcast: Preview a representative test and monitor stream-health messages, audio, and video quality in Live Control Room. Check the encoder’s output settings and the incoming stream rather than assuming that YouTube’s automatic transcoding will correct a faulty feed.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream of uploaded gameplay or other prerecorded video, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps it running, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays the uploaded video; it is not a camera-to-live service.
