Choose an AION 2 class by the combat feel and group role you want, then shape your build around whether you mainly play solo PvE, group PvE, or PvP. There is no evidence-backed single best class or universal build: NCSOFT has changed class skills and Stigma options over time, and its March 2026 overhaul separated PvE and PvP damage calculations.
How do I choose a class in AION 2?
Start with four questions: Do you want to fight at close range or from a distance? Do you prefer protecting allies, supporting them, healing, or focusing on damage? Do you enjoy broad attacks, precise strikes, burst magic, or combo-driven combat? Will you mostly play solo, in a group, in PvE, or in PvP?
NCSOFT’s June 2025 overview introduced eight playable classes and described their broad combat identities. The March 2026 class-overhaul announcement also names eight classes, but some names differ. For example, the 2025 overview uses “Marksman” and “Spiritmaster,” while the 2026 announcement uses “Ranger” and “Elementalist.” Check the class names and descriptions in the localized client you intend to play rather than assuming labels are identical across versions or regions.
| What you enjoy | Officially described class example | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Front-line tanking | Templar | NCSOFT describes Templar as the core tank, making it the clearest fit if protecting a group is your priority. |
| Wide melee attacks | Gladiator | NCSOFT highlights powerful wide-area skills for players who want broad attacks at close range. |
| Precision melee | Assassin | The 2025 overview characterizes Assassin as precision melee. |
| Long-range scouting | Marksman in the 2025 overview; Ranger in the 2026 overhaul | Consider this ranged identity if you would rather attack from a distance; verify the localized class name in your client. |
| Burst magic | Sorcerer | NCSOFT describes Sorcerer as having high burst magic. |
| Solo-oriented magic | Spiritmaster in the 2025 overview; Elementalist in the 2026 overhaul | The 2025 overview describes Spiritmaster as solo-oriented. Confirm how the corresponding class is named and described in your client. |
| Healing with damage options | Cleric | The 2025 overview notes improved damage capability alongside the class’s healing identity. |
| Versatile group support | Chanter | NCSOFT describes Chanter as versatile support. |
| Combo-driven front-line combat | Brawler | A later class announcement describes Gauntlet attacks and combo charges that build Rage toward Rampage. |
These are starting points based on NCSOFT’s role descriptions, not an official ranking. A class identity does not establish its current damage, survivability, or effectiveness in every activity.

Which AION 2 class fits my playstyle?
If you want to lead from the front
Consider the Templar if tanking and protecting a group are appealing. If you prefer attacking with broad melee skills rather than centering your choice on the core tank role, compare the Gladiator. Brawler is another front-line option for players drawn to a combo-and-resource rhythm: its announced design builds Rage through combo charges toward Rampage.
If you want quick, precise, or ranged attacks
Assassin is the official overview’s precision-melee example. For ranged play, look for the class described as Marksman in the 2025 overview or Ranger in the 2026 overhaul, and check the name used by your client. The announcements establish a ranged identity, not which option currently performs best.

If you want magic, healing, or support
Sorcerer is the clearest match in the overview for burst magic. The 2025 overview describes Spiritmaster as solo-oriented, while later material uses Elementalist; verify the localized naming. Cleric is described as a healer with improved damage capability, and Chanter as versatile support. These labels can help you choose a role, but they do not prove that one class is required or optimal for a particular group.
What build should I use for solo PvE, group PvE, or PvP?
First identify the client and update context, then choose the activity. NCSOFT’s announcements cover dungeons, raids, and PvP content, and the March 2026 overhaul says PvE and PvP damage calculations were separated. As a result, a skill choice that suits one mode should not automatically be treated as best in another.

| Activity | Build decision to make | What the official material supports |
|---|---|---|
| Solo PvE | Choose for the combat style and role you can sustain while playing alone; compare class descriptions and current skill text. | The 2025 overview discusses solo play and identifies Spiritmaster as solo-oriented, but the reviewed announcements do not provide a current, complete solo build for every class. |
| Group PvE | Decide whether you want to tank, support or heal, or focus on damage, then check the requirements of the specific group activity. | NCSOFT describes roles including Templar as tank, Chanter as support, and Cleric as a healer with damage options. Its announcements include group dungeons and raids, but do not establish a universal party setup. |
| PvP | Use PvP-specific skill and Stigma choices where appropriate; do not assume a PvE damage setup transfers unchanged. | NCSOFT says it separated PvE and PvP damage calculations in the March 2026 overhaul. That does not by itself identify the strongest current PvP build. |
Use official descriptions to select a role and feel, not to infer numerical performance. The reviewed announcements do not supply current, complete skill rotations, stat priorities, gear priorities, or best-in-slot setups for every class and mode.
How do Stigma and patches affect your build?
Stigma choices and class balance are version-sensitive. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 overhaul added a Stigma skill for each of eight classes and expanded the maximum number of Stigma slots to five. Its January 21, 2026 Season 2 announcement and later updates also document combat changes, so a guide that does not identify its date and client may no longer match your game.

In the July 6, 2026 update announcement’s context, NCSOFT said the level cap rose to 50 and Stigma skills could be enhanced up to level 25. Treat those numbers as facts about that dated update context, not as timeless rules for every client or region.
- Confirm your client and region. Check the in-game class names and patch notes for the version you actually play. The reviewed announcements do not establish that every change applies identically to every localized client.
- Pick the activity. Decide whether the setup is for solo PvE, group PvE, or PvP before comparing skills.
- Read current tooltips. Use the in-game descriptions to assess what a skill or Stigma does in your version, rather than copying an undated skill list.
- Recheck after class updates. NCSOFT’s dated announcements document class rebalances and new Stigma skills; revisit a build when your client receives relevant changes.
How to avoid choosing a build that does not fit
- Do not choose a class solely because an old tier list calls it strongest; the official role descriptions do not establish a timeless ranking.
- Do not treat PvE and PvP as interchangeable when NCSOFT says their damage calculations were separated.
- Do not assume class names in announcements from different dates match one-to-one across localized clients; verify them in game.
- Do not rely on exact rotations, stat priorities, or best-in-slot claims unless they are dated, tied to your mode and client, and supported by current information.
NCSOFT’s June 2025 overview also described an early vision of the game’s scale, including a world more than 36 times the original game’s scale and more than 200 dungeons. Those figures belong to that announcement and should not be read as current measured totals.
