Before buying a discounted RPG on the PlayStation Store, check the edition’s itemized contents—not just its name. Confirm whether it includes the base game, a story expansion or Season Pass, and any cosmetic or digital extras; then compare those contents with the game’s separately listed add-ons. Finally, verify PS4/PS5 compatibility and the offer terms on the Store page for your own region.
Compare what each edition actually includes
Labels such as “Deluxe,” “Bundle” and “Upgrade” are not reliable descriptions of what you will own. Read the contents listed for the specific product, and distinguish the full game from add-ons that may require separate ownership.

- Base game: Check that the listing includes the game itself. An upgrade or add-on may not be a standalone copy.
- Story content: Look for the named expansion or a Season Pass. Do not assume a Deluxe Edition includes either.
- Other extras: Identify cosmetic kits, outfits, weapons, digital art books and soundtracks separately from playable story content.
- Platform: Confirm whether the product is for PS4, PS5 or both, and that it suits the console you plan to use.
For example, the US PlayStation Store listing for Monster Hunter Rise separates four configurations: Standard includes the game; Deluxe adds the Deluxe Kit; Bundle includes the game and Sunbreak; and Deluxe Bundle includes the game, Sunbreak, the Deluxe Kit and the Sunbreak Deluxe Kit. In this case, “Deluxe” alone does not mean the Sunbreak expansion is included.
Check for overlap with separately listed add-ons
A Store page can list an expansion as a separate purchase even when one of the game’s editions already includes it. Compare the edition’s contents against the add-on list before checkout; otherwise, you could pay for content you already get in the edition.

Tales of ARISE provides a clear example: its Beyond the Dawn Edition lists both the base game and Beyond the Dawn Expansion, while the expansion is also listed separately as an add-on. If you are considering the edition, make sure you are not adding that same expansion to your purchase again.
Distinguish expansions from digital and cosmetic extras
Not every higher-priced edition adds a story chapter. The Monster Hunter Rise Deluxe Edition includes a Deluxe Kit, while the Store identifies Sunbreak separately as an expansion and offers configurations that include it.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin illustrates a different package: its Digital Deluxe Edition lists the game, a Season Pass, a digital art book and a digital mini soundtrack. The Store also lists a Digital Deluxe Upgrade and says its contents are included in the Digital Deluxe Edition. Check the upgrade’s details and ownership requirements rather than assuming an upgrade listing is a complete game.
Check whether an upgrade is a complete game
An “Upgrade” listing may provide additional content for owners of another product rather than the base game. The Dragon Age: The Veilguard Store page, for instance, displays a Deluxe Edition with character and weapon cosmetics and a separate Deluxe Edition Upgrade add-on. Before buying an upgrade, open its product details and confirm what it requires and what it grants. If you do not already own the required game or edition, the upgrade may not meet your needs.

Verify platform and live offer details
Check the product page itself for PS4/PS5 availability, price, discount and offer end date. These fields can change, and the examples above are US PlayStation Store listings; pricing, availability and currency can differ by region. If the page displays a lowest-price-in-last-30-days field, treat it as information shown for that listing at that time—not as a guarantee of the current price or future sale terms.
- Open the RPG’s Store page using the account region where you intend to buy it.
- Compare the itemized contents of the editions on offer. Note which include the base game, any expansion or Season Pass, and any other extras.
- Review the separate add-ons on that page and look for overlap with the edition you selected.
- Check platform labels and any stated ownership requirements, especially for products called “Upgrade.”
- Confirm the current price, discount and offer end date immediately before purchase.
A quick pre-purchase comparison
| Question | What to confirm on the Store listing |
|---|---|
| Does it include the full game? | The itemized contents should identify the game, not only an add-on or upgrade. |
| Is story DLC included? | Look for the expansion’s name or a Season Pass; do not infer inclusion from “Deluxe.” |
| What else is included? | Separate playable content from cosmetic kits, outfits, art books and soundtracks. |
| Could I be buying the same add-on twice? | Compare the edition contents with separately listed add-ons. |
| Will it work with my console? | Check the PS4/PS5 labels for the specific product. |
| Is the offer right for me now? | Check the live regional price, discount and end date before paying. |
The Store examples show why these checks matter: editions can differ substantially within the same game, and the Store can list an included expansion separately as an add-on. Use the live listing for your region to decide what a discounted offer actually gives you.
