The official product page says even people who have never played the series can dive in, and catching uses either button controls or a Joy-Con motion throw. That combination makes the games a strong fit if you want an accessible introduction without needing prior knowledge of Pokémon.
“Approachable” is not the same as a published difficulty ranking. The official material does not compare these games’ difficulty against every other Pokémon title. Your preferred controls and battle style matter, so choose Let’s Go for its newcomer-oriented presentation rather than assuming it is universally the easiest.

Pick Pikachu or Eevee by the experience you want
The edition determines your partner Pokémon and affects which wild species appear and how often encounters occur. Choose the partner you’d most like beside you, then check the official listing for version-specific encounters if particular Pokémon matter to you. The titles are not identical editions with only different cover art.
Consider whether you want to share the adventure
Let’s Go includes Support Play, in which a second player can join the same adventure and help with catching or battles. This is local play on the same system; it is distinct from internet battles or trades. According to the official online play guide, internet-based battles and trading require Nintendo Switch Online.

When FireRed or LeafGreen is a better first game
If you want a more classic Kanto journey, consider Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version. The Pokémon Company announced their availability on the Nintendo Switch family on February 27, 2026. These are the Game Boy Advance-era adventures returning on Switch, not newly modernized remakes. Choose them if that older-era experience is part of the appeal, rather than expecting the presentation and features of a newer game.
Pokémon’s August 13, 2026 announcement said these Switch versions were set to link with Pokémon HOME beginning in October 2026. It also warned that a Pokémon moved into HOME cannot return to these games. Since that announced timing is date-sensitive, check the current official HOME compatibility announcement for the latest status and rules before planning transfers.

When to choose Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Choose Pokémon Legends: Z-A if real-time, action-oriented battles sound more appealing than the traditional turn-based flow. Its battles involve movement and decisions about when to use moves, as well as each move’s reach, area of effect, and execution. The official gameplay page describes this distinct battle approach.
That makes the game a style choice, not an established shortcut for beginners. Pick it because you want battles built around timing and movement; the available official information does not establish it as easier or harder than the other options.

Check your system and transfer plans before choosing
The titles covered here are Nintendo Switch family games, but check the exact edition, regional listing, and system compatibility before buying. If a player already owns a system, matching the game to that hardware may matter more than comparing every option. Verify the listing in the player’s region rather than assuming availability is identical everywhere.
If moving Pokémon between games matters to you, treat Pokémon HOME as a title-specific collection and transfer service, not as a promise that every Pokémon can move freely between every game. The official Pokémon HOME page says restrictions may apply. Check compatibility and one-way transfer rules for each game before moving Pokémon.

- Want an officially newcomer-friendly introduction? Start with either Let’s Go edition, then choose Pikachu or Eevee based on partner preference and version-specific encounters.
