How to Choose Between the 64 GB and 128 GB NVIDIA DGX Spark

Choose between DGX Spark’s 64 GB and 128 GB configurations by the memory headroom your models, context lengths, fine-tuning and concurrent workloads require.

Choose the DGX Spark configuration by the memory your intended AI workload needs, not by parameter count alone. The 64 GB version is the plausible choice when your models and usage fit comfortably within its available memory; choose 128 GB when you need more room for larger models, longer contexts, concurrent workloads or fine-tuning. In either case, confirm the exact system’s specifications and test that your model, settings and software fit.

What changes between the 64 GB and 128 GB configurations?

The clearest difference is capacity. The 128 GB DGX Spark documented by NVIDIA has 128 GB of LPDDR5x unified system memory, a 256-bit interface and 273 GB/s memory bandwidth. NVIDIA’s hardware guide also lists 1 TB or 4 TB NVMe M.2 storage options, while its product page lists 4 TB. These are configuration details, so check the precise SKU rather than assuming every system has the same storage. NVIDIA’s DGX Spark hardware guide and product page describe the 128 GB system.

NVIDIA says its 64 GB configuration retains the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, DGX OS and NVIDIA AI software stack. Its announcement does not establish that every 64 GB partner system shares all of the documented 128 GB model’s bandwidth, storage, dimensions or power specifications. Compare the individual partner listing for those details. NVIDIA’s October 2, 2026 announcement names Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP and MSI as manufacturers offering 64 GB systems.

Both configurations use unified memory shared by the Arm CPU and integrated GPU. That means the advertised capacity is not a guarantee that all of it is available for model weights: the operating system, runtime, context, activations and other processes also use memory. NVIDIA’s system overview explains the shared-memory design.

How much memory does your workload need?

Start with the specific model and how you will run it. Parameter count is only one part of the memory requirement; quantization, context length, batch size, runtime overhead and workload all affect fit and usability. NVIDIA’s model-size figures are capability claims, not guarantees that every model at that size will run with every setting.

  • Model: identify the exact model and quantization you intend to use.
  • Context and batch: account for the context length and batch size you expect, rather than assuming a short demonstration represents your normal use.
  • Workload: decide whether you will only run inference or also fine-tune, and whether multiple models, agents or users will be active at once.
  • Headroom: leave room for the system and runtime as well as the model. A workload that only fits under constrained settings may not leave enough capacity for practical use.

If your workload is comfortably within the 64 GB system’s available memory and price is the deciding factor, 64 GB is the more plausible fit. If you expect to push model size, context, fine-tuning or concurrency, the additional capacity of the 128 GB configuration is the safer choice. This is a decision rule based on capacity, not a claim that one system is faster in a head-to-head test.

What NVIDIA’s model-capacity claims do—and do not—tell you

NVIDIA says the 64 GB configuration supports models up to 100 billion parameters. For the 128 GB system, NVIDIA’s materials describe inference or model support up to 200 billion parameters and fine-tuning up to 70 billion parameters. These figures indicate NVIDIA’s stated capabilities; they do not establish that a particular model will fit at a specific quantization, context length or batch size, or that it will perform acceptably for your use. NVIDIA’s DGX Spark product materials and 64 GB announcement provide the claims.

NVIDIA also lists up to 1 PFLOP at FP4 for DGX Spark. That is a theoretical peak figure using sparsity, not a general measure of application throughput or a direct comparison between the 64 GB and 128 GB configurations. The product specifications are the source for that figure.

When does 128 GB make sense?

The 128 GB configuration is for buyers who need memory headroom rather than merely a larger headline specification. Extra capacity can help accommodate larger models, longer contexts, more simultaneous work or fine-tuning, but the actual benefit depends on the software and workload. Check the memory demands of your planned use; do not infer that twice the capacity means twice the speed.

For perspective, NVIDIA’s documented 128 GB system has 273 GB/s memory bandwidth, but the cited hardware guide does not establish that the same bandwidth applies to each 64 GB partner model. Nor do the supplied NVIDIA materials provide an independent, directly comparable performance test of the two capacities.

Can two 64 GB systems replace one 128 GB system?

NVIDIA says two 64 GB systems connected over a 200 GbE fabric can pool memory to 128 GB using NVIDIA Sync Cluster Assistant. NVIDIA also reports up to 1.7x performance versus one system in its test with Qwen 3.8 27B. That result is specific to NVIDIA’s reported test; it is not a scaling guarantee for other models or workloads. A clustered setup also requires two machines and the stated networking approach. NVIDIA’s announcement describes the configuration and test.

Consider clustering only if you have a reason to operate two systems and can use the required network setup. The reported memory pooling and test result do not establish that two 64 GB machines are a cheaper or simpler substitute for one 128 GB system.

What to verify before buying

  • Exact configuration: confirm memory, storage, networking and other specifications for the precise model or SKU you are considering.
  • Local availability: NVIDIA announced that 64 GB partner systems would begin availability on October 23, 2026. That announced date does not establish current stock, regional availability or a particular partner’s delivery timing.
  • Price and warranty: compare the seller’s current price, warranty and support terms for the actual systems available in your region. NVIDIA’s announcement does not provide a price comparison between the configurations.
  • Workload fit: check the model, quantization, context, batch size and concurrency you plan to use, including memory needed by the operating system and runtime.

NVIDIA’s October 2, 2026 announcement characterizes the 64 GB configuration as having an “accessible price point,” but that is NVIDIA’s description, not a published price. The announcement says the 64 GB systems retain the same GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, DGX OS and NVIDIA AI software stack as the 128 GB model.
