Compare 24/7 YouTube streams using the same date range and scope, then calculate subscribers gained per 1,000 live-stream views: live-attributed subscribers gained ÷ live-stream views × 1,000. YouTube provides the underlying analytics, but this is a comparison method—not a standardized YouTube conversion metric. Show the raw totals and viewing context beside the rate so you can tell whether a stream converts a larger share of counted views or simply reaches more people.
Choose a rate that answers the right question
Primary measure: subscribers per 1,000 views
Use subscribers gained attributed to live content as the numerator and live-stream views as the denominator:
Subscribers gained per 1,000 views = (live-attributed subscribers gained ÷ live-stream views) × 1,000
For example, if a stream gained 18 subscribers from 6,000 views in the selected report, the calculated rate is 3 subscribers per 1,000 views. This does not mean 0.3% of unique people subscribed: YouTube views are not a count of unique people, and viewers may generate more than one view.

Secondary measure: subscribers per 1,000 watch hours
Calculate subscribers gained ÷ watch hours × 1,000. This shows subscriber gain relative to time watched, which can add useful context when streams have different viewing durations. It is also an analyst-calculated rate, not a named standard YouTube metric.
Keep totals and context alongside both rates
A normalized rate does not tell the whole story. Record views, subscribers gained, watch hours, average view duration, average and peak concurrent viewers, and hours streamed where available. Average and peak concurrency describe simultaneous viewing—not unique exposures—and should not be used as the conversion denominator.

Build a fair comparison in YouTube Studio
- Set identical reporting dates. Choose the same calendar start and end dates for every stream. Prefer full days, and note outages, restarts, unusual promotions, or other events that could affect exposure. If uptime differs, report the hours streamed as well as the rates.
- Limit the scope to live content. In YouTube Studio Analytics, use the content-type filter or live-stream reporting views to keep Shorts, posts, and regular videos out of a comparison specifically about 24/7 streams. Select the stream/video records being compared, and check that every stream is represented in the same way.
- Use Advanced Mode for side-by-side analysis. Open YouTube Studio Analytics and choose Advanced Mode. Add comparisons for the relevant date ranges, content groups, or metrics; YouTube documents comparisons and groups, including comparing subscriber gains between groups. Export the report if that makes it easier to calculate and audit the rates.
- Record the same fields for every stream. Capture live-attributed subscribers gained, views, watch time, average view duration, average and peak concurrent viewers, and hours streamed where available. Add traffic sources and audience context when the reports provide them.
- Calculate both rates consistently. Apply the formulas above to each stream using values from the same reporting surface and period. Keep unrounded values for calculation, then display the result to a sensible precision.
- Show the raw figures beside the rates. A high rate on very few views can be unstable; a lower rate on much greater reach may still mean more subscribers gained overall. Make sample size and totals visible rather than presenting the rate as a standalone verdict.
Use a comparison table that exposes the differences
Fill one row per stream, using the same units and report scope in every row. Add estimated unique viewers only if available, and label them as estimates.

Interpret results without confusing reach and conversion
Do not rank by subscriber totals alone
A stream available for more hours or receiving more traffic can accumulate more subscribers without having a higher subscribers-per-view rate. Use raw subscriber gains to understand scale and normalized rates to compare efficiency; hours streamed helps explain differences in opportunity to be seen.

Read traffic sources as context
Compare traffic-source mix when available. YouTube reach reporting distinguishes YouTube discovery from external sources, and source composition can help explain why two otherwise similar streams had different view counts. Geography, device, and new-versus-returning audience information can add context where reports permit it. Do not infer a breakdown that YouTube does not show.
Keep audience metrics aligned to the question
Unique viewers are estimated, not an exact count of people. YouTube’s monthly audience is a rolling 28-day unique-viewer measure; changing the date picker does not make its underlying window match an arbitrary comparison period. Channel-level audience measures may include people who watched any format on the channel, so they may not isolate the live stream.

Know which YouTube numbers you are comparing
YouTube’s live analytics documentation says: “Data in YouTube Analytics is based on Video ID. The data is processed and despammed and measures different info than what you get in the Live Control Room.” Use the same reporting surface for every stream, and identify it in your comparison. If you combine figures from YouTube Analytics and Live Control Room, label their origins rather than treating them as interchangeable.
YouTube Analytics provides subscriber gains by content type, including live streams, and live reports include views, watch time, average view duration, concurrency, and hours streamed. Analytics figures are processed and despammed; some audience metrics and breakdowns may be limited. If a field is unavailable or suppressed, mark it unavailable rather than estimating it.

The official documentation does not establish a standard conversion statistic or industry benchmark for 24/7 stream subscriber conversion. Treat your calculated rates as a consistent way to compare your own streams, not as a YouTube-published score or a universal target.
