To see whether Super Chat or channel memberships earned more, compare their source-level revenue in YouTube Studio Analytics over the same date range and in the same currency. YouTube states a 70% creator share for both under its Commerce Product Module, but that is a share of net revenue after applicable deductions—not a guarantee that the two features produce the same net amount per viewer payment.
Compare the two revenue sources in YouTube Studio
- Open the report: In YouTube Studio, go to Analytics and select the Revenue tab.
- Set one comparison period: Choose the same custom date range for both sources. Keep the currency and the estimate or final status consistent.
- Find Supers: Under How you make money, locate the Supers revenue entry. YouTube says Super Chat and Super Sticker reporting is available in Analytics > Revenue > How you make money (YouTube Help: Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers for Live Chat).
- Find memberships: In How you make money, select Memberships to see the dedicated breakdown. YouTube’s membership reporting also includes transaction counts and member counts and gains or losses in Analytics (YouTube Help: Analyze and manage your YouTube channel memberships program).
- Compare the reported revenue: Put the two source-level values side by side for that period. If you need to explain why they differ, add membership transactions and member movement, plus the number and timing of eligible livestreams with live chat enabled.
The result describes your channel during that particular period; it is not a general ranking of which feature earns more. Treat estimated revenue as provisional: YouTube says estimated monthly revenue can change after adjustments (YouTube Help: Understand ad revenue analytics).
What YouTube’s 70% share means
YouTube’s partner earnings overview says creators receive 70% of net revenues from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module (YouTube partner earnings overview). The figure applies to net revenue under the applicable terms, not necessarily to the full amount a viewer sees at checkout. YouTube says each creator’s revenue-share details are set out in the applicable partner agreement.
The deduction descriptions differ. For Supers, YouTube says local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted before applying the creator’s 70% share; YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. For memberships, YouTube describes the 70% share as applying after applicable taxes and fees, with context varying by country or region and user platform; it currently covers transaction costs. Membership refunds can be deducted from a creator’s revenue share, and a multi-channel network may retain an additional share (Supers guidance; membership guidance).

Consequently, the same nominal percentage does not establish equal net proceeds per payment. Payment amount, applicable taxes and fees, platform, timing, purchases, retention, refunds, and any MCN share can all affect the amounts that reach the creator.
Why the two features behave differently
Super Chat is tied to live activity
A viewer buys a highlighted message in live chat. Super Chat therefore depends on eligible livestream or Premiere activity and on live chat being available. When comparing periods, interpret its revenue alongside the dates and activity of those streams—not simply the length of the reporting window.

Memberships are recurring payments for perks
Memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for members-only benefits such as badges and emoji. Consider both membership revenue and movement in the member base: gains and cancellations or losses help explain whether a period’s revenue reflects ongoing membership or a change in participation. YouTube’s official feature descriptions cover these distinctions (memberships; Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies).
Check eligibility before interpreting a low Super Chat result
Super Chat is not available for every creator, location, or video. YouTube lists exclusions that include age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos; it is also unavailable when live chat or comments are turned off. A period with fewer eligible streams—or none—may therefore show little or no Super Chat revenue without indicating how viewers would behave under different conditions. Check YouTube’s current eligibility, availability, and policy rules for the channel and content in question.

YouTube describes Supers as fan-funding features, not crowdfunding or donations, and says creators must follow applicable law. Review its YouTube Commerce Products monetization policies and the terms that apply to your channel.
Do not use RPM to answer this comparison
RPM is a post-revenue-share metric that combines multiple sources, including ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. It cannot isolate Super Chat against memberships. Use the feature-specific revenue entries instead (YouTube Help: Understand ad revenue analytics).
