A 24-hour broadcast does not automatically produce 24 hours of watch time: the metric totals the time viewers actually watched.
Compare the same data in YouTube Studio
- Open Analytics for the livestream and the regular video, or open channel-level Analytics in Advanced Mode if you want to compare channel totals. Keep video-level and channel-level figures separate: they answer different questions.
- Set the same date range for both reports. If a stream has an archive, decide whether you mean viewing during the live broadcast, later playback of its video-on-demand (VOD) archive, or both.
- Apply the same content filter to both items: Live, On demand, or Live and on-demand. Use Live for live-event viewing, On demand for later playback, or the combined filter when you want both.
- Compare Watch time (hours). YouTube defines it as the amount of time viewers watched the video. Advanced Mode can show more specific data, comparisons, and exports.
YouTube is gradually updating Studio beginning in July 2026, so labels and layout can vary between accounts. If you do not see a control in the same place, use the relevant Analytics report or Advanced Mode rather than assuming the underlying measure has changed.
Read the other metrics as context, not substitutes

For a useful comparison, keep total watch time, views, and average viewing duration on the same date range and reporting level. Treat concurrent audience as a live-only context measure; it has no direct equivalent for an ordinary on-demand video.
Why Live Control Room and Analytics can disagree
The Live Control Room provides real-time livestream metrics. YouTube says Analytics is based on video ID, is processed and despammed, and measures different information from the Live Control Room. A difference between the two reports can therefore reflect different reporting and processing, not necessarily a specific error.

When comparing the livestream with a regular video, use the Analytics reports consistently. Use the Live Control Room when you need the live event’s real-time measures, rather than treating its figures as interchangeable with processed Analytics totals.
Check the archive before drawing conclusions about a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. A 24/7 broadcast should not be assumed to have a complete VOD archive; check whether the recording exists and covers the period you intend to analyze.

If the archive is missing or incomplete, distinguish the live-event reporting from later VOD playback. Do not interpret an absent replay as proof that nobody watched live, or assume the archive contains all of the broadcast.
Use the right watch-hour figure for monetization
General Watch time in Analytics is not the same as valid public watch hours shown in YouTube Studio’s Earn area. For public watch-hour thresholds, YouTube says livestreams must be public and converted to VOD to count. Unlisted or deleted livestreams, and streams not converted to VOD, do not count toward those thresholds. Check Earn’s valid public watch hours rather than estimating eligibility from general Analytics.

YouTube’s eligibility page lists one route requiring 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months, and a separate Shorts route requiring 1,000 subscribers and 10 million valid public Shorts views in the past 90 days. These are published policy thresholds, not forecasts of channel performance; meeting a threshold alone does not guarantee acceptance, which also involves policy review. Check the current Earn page before acting because YouTube can change eligibility rules.

For a do-it-yourself workflow, compare the stream and regular video in Studio as described above, then make sure the stream’s archive is available if you need to analyze replay viewing. If you operate the broadcast from a home computer, that setup depends on the computer and connection staying available; YouTube’s archive guidance still makes a local backup prudent for long streams.
