Compare your own Indian and overseas audience in YouTube Analytics over matching dates, using the same livestream or replay basis and the estimated ad revenue metric. Then check views, monetized playbacks, ad impressions and playback-based CPM to understand why the totals differ. There is no universal India-to-overseas earnings rate: geography affects advertiser competition, but it is only one factor in what ads are served and what your channel earns.
Set up a fair comparison in YouTube Analytics
- Choose matching date ranges. Compare the same number of days for each region. Where possible, repeat the comparison over several windows; a short-term result can reflect timing rather than a stable pattern.
- Keep the reporting basis consistent. Compare the livestream with the livestream, or the replay with the replay. YouTube says creators can review live-stream and replay ad revenue in Analytics; mixing them can make the comparison misleading.
- Select the geography breakdown. In YouTube Analytics, break the report down by geography where that dimension is available. Some geography data may be limited, so disclose missing or incomplete data rather than treating it as a complete country-by-country record. See YouTube’s Analytics guidance.
- Choose estimated ad revenue. If your question is specifically about advertising earnings, use estimated ad revenue for each region. Keep the selected currency and dates consistent. YouTube’s API revenue estimates default to USD; a currency parameter is supported for some revenue and ad-performance metrics. Estimates may be adjusted at month end, so recently reported totals can change. See the YouTube Analytics and Reporting API metric definitions.
- Record the supporting metrics. Alongside estimated ad revenue, note views, estimated monetized playbacks, ad impressions and playback-based CPM for each region. These measures use different denominators and help separate audience size, ad delivery and advertiser-side pricing.
For a creator-yield comparison, you can calculate estimated ad revenue divided by total views for each region, then multiply by 1,000. Label it clearly as your calculation—estimated ad revenue per 1,000 total views—and use the same dates, currency and view basis for both regions. For advertiser-side pricing, compare playback-based CPM instead. Do not multiply CPM by total views and present the result as creator earnings.
Know what each metric measures

Separate audience contribution, yield and ad pricing
A region can contribute more total ad revenue simply because it generated more views. To understand a per-view difference, compare estimated ad revenue relative to total views. To understand advertiser-side prices, look at playback-based CPM. To understand how often views were monetized, compare monetized playbacks and ad impressions with views.

Do not assume that an overseas viewer automatically earns more than an Indian viewer, or that every overseas country behaves alike. YouTube says advertisers can target geographies and that competition varies by location: “Different locations will have different levels of competition in the ad market, so CPMs will vary by geography.” Time of year and ad-format distribution also affect CPM. The regional differences in your report can reflect ad prices, the proportion of views that received ads, viewer mix and timing—not country alone. What a 24/7 schedule does—and does not—change
A continuous schedule creates more opportunities for viewers to encounter a stream, but it does not guarantee an ad at a fixed frequency or for every viewer. YouTube’s live-stream guidance describes pre-roll, display and mid-roll ads for monetized livestreams, while noting that the system decides which opportunities receive ads. Ads may not be served on every possible opportunity. Reasons can include the video’s advertiser-friendliness, disabled ads, the absence of an available ad matching a viewer’s targeting, Premium status or a viewer having recently seen an ad. That is why views, monetized playbacks and impressions should be read together rather than treated as interchangeable.
In a March 24, 2025 explanation, YouTube said: “Just because there’s many ad slots doesn’t mean we will serve an ad on each one of them.” YouTube also reported an average 5% revenue increase in its experiments when creators combined automatic and manual mid-roll slots. That is YouTube’s reported experimental result—not a guaranteed lift, and not a finding specifically about Indian versus overseas viewers on 24/7 streams. Report your findings without overstating them
- Show the date range, currency and whether figures refer to the livestream or replay.
- Name the metric and denominator for every rate. Distinguish estimated ad revenue per 1,000 total views from playback-based CPM.
- Report limited geography data or unavailable breakdowns explicitly.
- Describe revenue as estimated, particularly for recent periods that may be adjusted at month end.
- Present country differences as results for your channel and selected period, not as a universal regional rate.
