Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo keep a YouTube livestream going on a slow connection, lower the live encoder’s bitrate and, if needed, its resolution or frame rate until your upload connection can sustain the stream with spare capacity. Start by testing upload speed where and when you will stream; do not use a finished-video compression preset as a live-stream setting.
1. Measure the upload connection you will actually use
Run an internet speed test from the same device, connection and location planned for the stream. Upload speed is the relevant figure; download speed does not tell you how much video you can send to YouTube. If you use shared Wi-Fi or a shared mobile connection, test when the stream will run and account for other people and devices using it.
YouTube says, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” It recommends leaving 20% headroom for connection fluctuations and other network traffic. For example, if a test shows 5 Mbps upload, 20% headroom leaves about 4 Mbps for the stream; this is a planning estimate, not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable. Repeat tests if speeds vary by time of day. YouTube’s guidance does not establish one setting for all Indian connections or providers. YouTube streaming tips
2. Choose a live bitrate that fits
Use the following H.264 recommendations from YouTube’s live encoder guidance as starting points. They are recommended ingestion settings, not promises that a connection at exactly that bitrate will be reliable. Select a lower option if the measured, usable upload capacity cannot support the target plus headroom, then test it. YouTube live encoder settings

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Live resolution and frame rate | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 360p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
On a constrained connection, 360p30 or 480p30 is a sensible place to test before moving up. Lower resolution reduces visual detail; lowering frame rate reduces motion smoothness. Choose the combination that makes sense for the content, then confirm it remains stable in a real test. These figures are YouTube’s published recommendations; the retrieved guidance does not give a publication year.
3. Set the live encoder correctly
In your streaming encoder, set the video bitrate to match the resolution and frame-rate choice, and configure these YouTube-recommended options:

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Transport: RTMPS, YouTube’s recommended secure transport.
- Codec: H.264 is a broadly usable choice. YouTube also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1 for live video, but do not assume your encoder hardware or software supports them or that they will run faster on older equipment.
YouTube automatically transcodes a received livestream into multiple output formats for viewers, but this does not remove the creator’s upload-bandwidth limit. Your encoder still has to deliver a stable incoming feed. YouTube’s encoder settings and codec guidance
4. Test before the continuous stream
- Set the encoder to the chosen resolution, frame rate and bitrate, with CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval and RTMPS.
- Run a test stream using representative movement and audio. A static screen alone may not reveal how the actual content behaves.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and check stream-health messages and alerts while the test runs.
- If the stream is unstable or YouTube reports insufficient bandwidth, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again. YouTube’s error guidance specifically advises considering a lower resolution when bandwidth is insufficient.
A lower setting can help when the selected stream exceeds available capacity, but it cannot guarantee stability if the underlying connection fluctuates or is heavily shared. YouTube live-stream error messages

5. Do not confuse livestream settings with video-file compression
A finished video uploaded to YouTube is a different workflow from sending a live feed. YouTube’s file-upload encoding guidance covers formats such as MP4/H.264 and bitrate recommendations for uploaded files; those are not live ingestion presets. For a continuous livestream, use the live encoder settings above rather than compressing a recording with an upload-file bitrate and assuming it will solve a slow live connection.
