To run a prerecorded Tamil meditation video continuously on YouTube, configure FFmpeg to loop the file in real time, encode H.264 video and AAC audio, and send the output to the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. The settings below are a practical 30 fps starting point—not a special profile for Tamil content—and FFmpeg retries can help with temporary output failures but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
Before you start
- Install an FFmpeg build that includes the
libx264encoder and FIFO muxer. Confirm availability withffmpeg -encodersandffmpeg -muxers; build options vary. - Prepare the video you intend to loop and check its picture, soundtrack, duration, and rights. The command below expects at least one video stream and one audio stream.
- Have a computer or server that can stay powered on and connected, with sustained upload capacity for the encoded stream. This do-it-yourself setup depends on that host and connection remaining available.
- Enable or schedule the YouTube live stream in YouTube Studio and retrieve the ingest URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. YouTube’s live encoder settings are the reference for its current settings guidance.
Choose resolution and bitrate
Use a bitrate that matches the resolution and frame rate you actually send. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists these figures for 30 fps:

These are YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee of picture quality or stable ingest. The sample command uses 5 Mbps, the listed 1080p30 minimum, to avoid presenting the higher recommended rate as mandatory. For a 1080p30 stream where the source and sustained connection support it, you can set the video rate to 14 Mbps; for 720p30, use the corresponding 3 Mbps minimum or 8 Mbps recommended value. Ensure upload capacity exceeds the combined video and audio rates with practical headroom; no specific overhead margin is established here.

The example encodes at 30 fps. If your prepared source or chosen output frame rate differs, adjust the frame rate and GOP together so the keyframe interval remains about two seconds. Do not raise resolution or bitrate beyond what the source and connection can sustain.
Get the YouTube ingest URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live. Create or open the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- In the stream settings, copy the server/ingest URL and stream key provided by YouTube. Labels and layout may change; use the values displayed for that stream rather than constructing an address yourself.
- Use the RTMPS ingest address when available. YouTube’s API documents primary and backup ingest addresses; sending to a backup is an optional parallel destination, not automatic failover for a command with one output. - Do not paste a real stream key into a public post, shared script, screenshot, or example. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
For encoder implementations using YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint, connections use SSL/TLS on port 443, and YouTube specifies that the hostname is needed for SNI-based authentication. Use the exact endpoint YouTube provides rather than stripping or replacing its hostname.

Replace meditation.mp4 with the prepared file and replace the endpoint and key placeholders with the values from YouTube Studio. This illustrative template has not been run or tested here; check option availability and behavior against your installed FFmpeg build.

Substitute YouTube’s complete RTMPS address and stream name/key in the form it gives you. Keep the real key out of shell history and logs where possible; for a long-running deployment, restrict access to any file or environment variable used to hold it.

What the command does
-rereads file input at approximately real-time speed;-stream_loop -1requests an indefinite repeat of the input.-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0selects the first video and first audio streams. It fails if the file has no audio stream; see the audio note below.-c:v libx264encodes H.264.-pix_fmt yuv420pis a common compatibility choice for live video.-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0sets 30 frames per second and a 60-frame GOP, which is two seconds at 30 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says it should not exceed four seconds.-b:v 5000k -maxrate 5000k -bufsize 10000kis an example rate-control setup. Equal bitrate and maximum-rate values express a CBR target, but confirm the exact behavior of the installed FFmpeg/libx264 build. Choose values appropriate to your output and available sustained upload capacity.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2encodes stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, YouTube’s stated stereo baseline. Listen to the actual meditation mix and check its live preview; encoding settings cannot correct a poor source mix.-f fifo -fifo_format flvwraps the output in FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer using FLV for the streaming output.-attempt_recovery 1 -recovery_wait_time 1enables retry attempts after a temporary output failure, with a one-second wait between attempts.-drop_pkts_on_overflow 1allows processing to continue if the FIFO queue fills, but doing so can drop packets and affect the stream.
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer documentation describes recovery behavior and its options: FFmpeg FIFO muxer. The documented default maximum number of unsuccessful recovery attempts is unlimited (zero). Decide deliberately whether your operation should keep retrying or stop after a defined policy; unlimited retries do not repair a persistent fault.
If the file has no audio
The example requires an audio stream. If the video is silent, either prepare a suitable audio track and map it, or deliberately add a silence source and map that stream. Do not assume that a silent video-only input will work in every encoder and YouTube setup; test the exact command in Live Control Room first. Likewise, check that stream selection and option syntax are accepted by your installed FFmpeg build.

Test the stream and monitor it continuously
- Start FFmpeg while the YouTube broadcast is in test or preview mode, where available, before relying on it for a continuous stream.
- Use representative motion and the actual Tamil meditation audio, not just a static test image or unrelated sample. Confirm the picture, audio presence, sync, and loop transition in the preview.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and read any warnings or messages. YouTube says it detects encoder settings and transcodes live streams for viewer output formats, but that does not replace checking whether your ingest is healthy.
- After changes to bitrate, resolution, frame rate, audio mapping, or endpoint, run another representative test and check stream health again.
- Monitor the FFmpeg process and YouTube stream health during operation. FIFO recovery operates inside an active FFmpeg process; it does not restart FFmpeg if the process exits or the host reboots.
YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Follow its encoder settings guidance and review the messages shown for your specific broadcast.

For longer operation, consider a process supervisor and monitoring for both FFmpeg and YouTube health. Redundant hosts, power protection, and network redundancy are separate design choices; neither FFmpeg’s retry option nor YouTube’s ingest documentation guarantees seamless failover.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Use recordings, images, and music you own or are authorized to broadcast. A meditation purpose or Tamil-language content does not by itself establish permission to use a song, recording, or visual. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules before scheduling the stream, and be prepared for a rights claim or other restriction if the material is not cleared. Continuous repetition also does not establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization or originality requirements; consult the current YouTube policies for your own channel rather than assuming that a 24/7 loop qualifies.
